Chapter 118: The Pregnancy Is a Fake

Normally, work ends at five o’clock, but Song Qingtian has to leave early.

She needs to pick up her daughter from kindergarten.

When the alarm on her phone went off at quitting time, Song Qingtian got up and stood.

She was leaving—going to pick up her daughter.

Ling Hanyu, sitting across from her, called out, “I’ll be ready soon too!”

“No need, I can just take a taxi. By the time you’re done, only Nuonuo will be left at kindergarten, so I’d better go early!”

With that, Song Qingtian had already stepped out the door. Ling Hanyu did indeed still have something to do and couldn’t leave, so he had no choice but to call Yang Yifan, asking him to accompany Song Qingtian to pick up their daughter first and bring her back, then wait for him to finish work before they both left together.

As Song Qingtian walked from the upper floor to the lower, she had just stepped out of the elevator when she ran into the Development Department Project Manager, who was heading upstairs to give a report.

Song Qingtian was also surprised to run into this person.

Even a fool could tell that the other party wasn’t being friendly—let alone Song Qingtian, who was clearly being targeted.

Wanting to avoid the man, Song Qingtian took a step to the side.

But the other guy wouldn’t let it go; he actually tripped her, and Song Qingtian lost her balance, nearly falling.

By the time she steadied herself, laughter was already echoing around them.

Some people didn’t even try to hide their amusement.

Song Qingtian’s face turned pale as she quickly put a hand over her abdomen, terrified that something might happen to the baby.

Just then, Yang Yifan hurried over, shot the Development Department Project Manager a cold look, and asked Song Qingtian with concern, “Are you all right?”

Song Qingtian looked at Yang Yifan and said, “Take me to the hospital.”

Once again, mocking glances filled the air, and some people even whispered that she was being overly dramatic.

But Song Qingtian couldn’t care about any of that—she had to go to the hospital for the sake of the baby in her womb.

Yang Yifan certainly couldn’t afford to delay either; he quickly accompanied Song Qingtian to the hospital.

On the way, Song Qingtian called Aunt Chen and asked her to stop by the kindergarten to pick up Ling Nuonuo.

After hanging up, Song Qingtian kept staring out the car window.

Although she didn’t know how this child came to be, it was still growing inside her.

Once you become a mother, you have to take responsibility for your child and protect them.

That’s the essence of being a mother—strength in the face of adversity.

Yang Yifan asked, “Should we tell General Ling?”

“No, it should be fine. It’s not serious—just a quick check-up.”

Yang Yifan glanced at Song Qingtian in the rearview mirror, feeling inexplicably uneasy.

It was hard to believe that Song Qingtian would say something like that.

In the past, even the smallest thing would set Song Qingtian off.

This time, though, it was obvious that the Project Manager was deliberately targeting her.

Given Song Qingtian’s current standing in General Ling’s eyes, the Project Manager could easily find himself in big trouble.

You don’t beat a dog without looking at its master—this Project Manager clearly didn’t understand his own position.

But this time, Song Qingtian didn’t make a scene. Either she really wasn’t thinking straight, or she’d finally learned her lesson and knew when to hold back. After all, with her parents gone, she was free to do whatever she wanted.

When they arrived at the hospital, Song Qingtian went in for an examination.

But the doctor who saw her seemed a bit puzzled.

Staring blankly, Song Qingtian asked, “I’m not pregnant?”

The doctor was a female physician in her fifties, skilled in both Western and Traditional Chinese medicine.

As she took Song Qingtian’s pulse, she said there was no pregnancy.

Song Qingtian instinctively looked over at Yang Yifan.

Yang Yifan was equally embarrassed—this was truly like a dog that couldn’t change its ways!

Song Qingtian took a deep breath, clearly understanding what Yang Yifan was implying.

Turning around, she asked, “Could you at least do an ultrasound for me?”

“An ultrasound would be fine, too.”

The doctor handed Song Qingtian the receipt and then asked, “When was your last period?”

“About twenty-something days ago…”

As she mentioned those twenty-odd days, Song Qingtian suddenly realized something.

Her previous period had lasted three days, and after it ended, she had been intimate with Ling Hanyu. By the time she was diagnosed as pregnant, it had only been a few days since they’d last been together, so…

She wasn’t pregnant at all!

“I understand now, thank you!”

Pushing the receipt back toward the doctor, Song Qingtian stood up.

She didn’t have much else to say, so she glanced at Yang Yifan and said, “Secretary Yang, let’s go.”

The two of them left, and Yang Yifan just adjusted his glasses.

Even though he looked down on her in every possible way, he remained utterly indifferent.

That was simply his duty.

Once they were in the car, Song Qingtian called Ling Hanyu: “There’s something I…”

“I’ve got a bit more to do—why don’t you and Nuonuo come over?”

Before Song Qingtian could say much more, Ling Hanyu hung up.

Song Qingtian stared at her phone, feeling strangely uncomfortable.

What was this?
