Chapter 148: Taken Hostage
Chapter 148: Taken Hostage
Song Qingtian, without the slightest hesitation, took off her watch and handed it to Qin Xiaotian. But Qin Xiaotian didn’t take it; instead, Song Qingtian reached into the pocket of his jacket and shoved the watch inside.
“You overestimate me. There’s no way I’d sacrifice myself for someone else—whether it’s my reputation or anything else. I don’t know why Mr. Qin has suddenly become so nice, as if he’s a completely different person. But to me, it’s all just unrealistic. If you’re going to repay me with such a grand gesture, why not just hand me a few hundred million? I’d be endlessly grateful if I could hold that much cash in my hands. Otherwise, stop pretending to repay me and forcing me to submit!”
With that, Song Qingtian turned around and walked away, resolute as an arrow released from a bow—no one could possibly stop her.
Qin Xiaotian stood there, clutching the watch in his hand.
He felt rather at a loss.
The Old Steward stepped forward from the side, bowing respectfully: “Young Master.”
Qin Xiaotian glared coldly at him: “So this is your brilliant idea?”
The steward was speechless. Who could have known Song Qingtian was like this? The rumors must be wrong!
“Young Master, you should go after her first. No matter what, this place is so remote… something might happen if we wait here.”
The Old Steward meant well, and only then did Qin Xiaotian set off in pursuit.
Song Qingtian had barely walked a short distance when she stopped. She realized this place was far from the city—walking back would take at least two hours—and there wasn’t a single car in sight. Fearing something might happen, she called Ling Hanyu.
“I came out to do a site visit to those two welfare institutions, but I never expected to run into Qin Xiaotian. He dragged me to an abandoned hospital in the suburbs, and there aren’t any cars here.”
“I’ll be right there—send me the address.”
Ling Hanyu hung up and headed out immediately. Shen Congyue tried to stop him: “General Manager Ling, what about this…”
“Secretary Yang, you stay behind to investigate. Let me know as soon as you have results.”
With that, Ling Hanyu coldly walked away.
Yang Yifan glanced at the people in the finance department, finally fixing his gaze on Shen Congyue. So he was finally making a move?
Ling Hanyu got in his car and sped straight toward the address Song Qingtian had sent, while also dialing her number.
Song Qingtian checked her phone battery—it was almost full.
It’s not that she had to call Ling Hanyu whenever something happened; it’s just that she really didn’t know anyone else. Jia Shuangshuang, the original female supporting character, could’ve been of some help, but unfortunately, she said she’d gone abroad.
Song Qingtian had also received the news when she suffered a miscarriage at the hospital. She didn’t want to say too much, for fear that Jia Shuangshuang wouldn’t feel at ease, so she hadn’t told Jia Shuangshuang what had happened to her.
And now, this was the situation.
Here, she only knew Ling Hanyu. Who else could she turn to?
Ling Hanyu answered the phone impatiently, untying his tie and tossing it aside, leaving several buttons of his collar undone. Even with the wind rushing through the car, he still didn’t feel cool. But since he had to make a call, he closed the windows and turned on the air conditioning.
“Who told you to go out?”
“Is it really necessary to talk about this now? I just wanted to check on the welfare home and the orphanage, confirm the numbers and such. Who could have imagined I’d run into Qin Xiaotian?”
Although she was unhappy with Ling Hanyu’s questioning, Song Qingtian still explained herself.
Just as she was about to tell Ling Hanyu she was in excruciating pain—so bad she thought she was going to die—she saw several cars speeding toward her.
“Ling Hanyu…”
“Hm?”
Ling Hanyu was surprised. Song Qingtian rarely called him by his name anymore. The last time was when they’d had that accident in the underground parking garage and she’d lost the baby.
Ling Hanyu’s face suddenly darkened: “What’s wrong?”
“It looks like someone’s trying to kidnap me. I’ve put my phone on me—please don’t say anything.”
Song Qingtian quickly tucked her phone away and started walking toward Qin Xiaotian, picking up speed until she was practically running. But those cars were faster than she was, and soon they caught up with her.
They left no room for escape, blocking Song Qingtian’s path.
More than a dozen men climbed out of the cars—strong, burly men.
Song Qingtian looked at them in confusion: “Who are you guys? I don’t know you!”
On the phone, Ling Hanyu was driving so fast his heart was pounding.
The men chuckled.
“Someone paid us to take good care of Miss Song. Don’t worry, Miss Song—we’re not after your life; we want your body.”
“Stop messing around! My husband is Ling Hanyu. He’s got tons of money—he can hire as many women as he wants. Mess with him, and you won’t end well.”
Song Qingtian just wanted to save herself.
“If it were someone else, maybe we’d consider it. But Miss Song is so beautiful—fair skin, lovely features—how could we bear to do anything to her?”
As they spoke, the men swarmed over her, and Song Qingtian screamed in terror.
“Damn it!”
Ling Hanyu’s car roared past, its eyes already blazing with murderous intent!
