Chapter 181: So What—You Want a Divorce?
Chapter 181: So What—You Want a Divorce?
Ling Hanyu cupped her chin: “Don’t think I don’t know—you want a divorce!”
Song Qingtian had almost forgotten about the divorce, but now that Ling Hanyu brought it up, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
And so…
“Divorce is absolutely necessary. Even if it weren’t for Nuonuo, I’d still have to think about myself. During our marriage, you never fulfilled your marital duties; you kept dodging responsibility, which left me feeling insecure. I want a divorce…”
“Duties? Didn’t I fulfill them last night?”
Ling Hanyu leaned in closer, making Song Qingtian a bit uncomfortable. She stiffened her face and said, “That was then. Besides, who says marital duties are limited to just that one thing? First, you never spend time chatting with me or trying to cheer me up; second, you never give me any pocket money or let me have any spending money; third, all the money you earn is yours, not mine; and fourth… you’re always out there, and lots of people only know you married a Song family daughter you don’t even like, but they refuse to acknowledge that I’m your wife. That gives some people an opening to take advantage of you—and that’s also your fault, Mo Xu. Aren’t you failing on all four counts?”
Ling Hanyu tightened his grip, his fingers digging in even deeper.
“Yes.”
Ling Hanyu wasn’t afraid to admit it!
“And besides… when my parents got into trouble, you grabbed my property and didn’t lift a finger to help them. In my eyes, you’re no different from a stranger.”
A stranger?
Ling Hanyu’s grip tightened even more.
Song Qingtian wasn’t afraid of him—she was being honest: “But it’s not really your fault. Think about it—if someone forced me to marry someone I didn’t like, I wouldn’t be happy either. So… breaking up would actually be a good thing—for everyone involved.”
“You’re still holding a grudge over your father-in-law and mother-in-law?”
Song Qingtian felt sorry for Song Haichao and his wife.
Although she didn’t want to bring it up, since the conversation had already gone this far, there was no point in remaining completely silent.
“I may not be perfect, but my parents were kind to you. They really liked you. Even though Dad didn’t approve of me marrying you—he thought I wasn’t good enough for you and that you wouldn’t like me either—because of my own foolishness, I ended up marrying you anyway. Still, he accepted you in the end. When he talks about you in front of others, you can tell he’s proud of you. I remember…”
Song Qingtian thought of her father, then of how Song Haichao had compromised and bent over backwards for his daughter, and suddenly felt a lump in her throat.
Ling Hanyu slowly released his grip.
As soon as he let go, Song Qingtian breathed a sigh of relief—damn, that hurt!
She rubbed her chin and said, “Dad really likes you, but you’ve never helped him at all. I can see you respect Dad a lot and treat Mom pretty well too. It’s just that deep down, you’re still resentful, thinking we forced you into this marriage.”
Song Qingtian shifted slightly to the side and sat up straight. “I know you’re in a tough spot. This wasn’t something you wanted. Back then, I acted irrationally and selfishly, putting pressure on you and forcing you to marry me. At the time, your career wasn’t doing well yet, so you agreed to me. Dad made some mistakes too, and you’ve been holding onto that resentment ever since! But… if you’d just held out a little longer back then, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out like this. Even though I’ve got a child now, I can still make a living, and my parents can help raise Nuonuo for me.”
Ling Hanyu looked at Song Qingtian. Was this regret showing?
“You’re still hung up on my youthful ignorance—my foolish decision to marry you, to fall in love with you, and to pressure Dad into letting me marry you. All of that was my fault. I’d even kneel down and apologize, but my parents aren’t at fault at all. They’ve been incredibly kind to you.”
“…” Ling Hanyu’s face remained cold. Was he going to start fighting for a divorce again?
“So instead of looking at the monks’ faces and seeing the Buddha, why don’t you look at Nuonuo? After all, she’s their maternal grandparents, and you should be helping them out—but you’re not.”
Song Qingtian was determined to get a divorce. Even if they couldn’t actually get divorced, she’d at least draw up a proper agreement: separating their incomes and keeping each person’s property separate. She couldn’t allow Ling Hanyu to keep all the money he earned while she got nothing from hers. That just didn’t make sense!
Ling Hanyu stared at Song Qingtian. “So what? You really want a divorce?”
Song Qingtian looked at Ling Hanyu’s icy expression and swallowed the words that had already formed on her lips—of course she wanted a divorce!
