Chapter 240: A Threat of Exposure
Chapter 240: A Threat of Exposure
Song Qingtian leaned over the railing: “Five million is too little—make it fifty million!”
She spoke in a casual, almost drowsy tone, as if she hadn’t quite woken up yet.
Aunt Chen was still awake, waiting for Ling Hanyu to return. It was already ten o’clock, and he still hadn’t come home.
Still, Aunt Chen didn’t plan to wait forever. If Ling Hanyu didn’t show up soon, she’d have to go to bed herself.
Seeing Song Qingtian on the phone upstairs, Aunt Chen felt an inexplicable sense of worry.
It didn’t sound like good news—she’d been threatened!
Aunt Chen looked at Song Qingtian with the kind of concern a mother feels for her daughter.
Song Qingtian made a shushing gesture with her hand, then waved to indicate that Aunt Chen should go to bed first.
Aunt Chen wasn’t entirely reassured, so she gestured several times, asking whether she should help.
Song Qingtian waved again, assuring Aunt Chen not to worry.
Only then did Aunt Chen leave.
Song Yinyin, on the other end, thought she must have misheard.
“Song Qingtian, are you still half-asleep?”
“I’m not asleep,” Song Qingtian replied.
Turning around, she leaned against the railing: “Fifty million—enough to settle everything. No matter how you dig up the dirt, you’ve got to pay me for the emotional damage. Otherwise, I’ll release every single video about your mom—everything from her having an affair with Chen Jianxiu, to how she framed your father’s death, and even her dealings with a few others. Song Yinyin… if you don’t have the money, ask your mom—she might just have some.”
“What did you say?” Yinyin shouted into the phone, but Song Qingtian immediately hung up.
Staring at her phone, Song Qingtian realized she’d acted too impulsively.
Revealing herself so quickly was far from wise.
But this was only the prelude—just a smokescreen. It was nothing serious.
Patting her chest, Song Qingtian tried to calm herself: “It’s okay, it’s okay—I’m not afraid!”
Leaving the railing, she headed back inside.
She nearly burst out laughing.
Just as she opened the door and stepped in, Ling Hanyu walked in from the entrance.
Although he had no idea what Song Qingtian had just said on the phone, it looked like she’d scored another victory.
Song Qingtian crawled under the covers and kissed her daughter before closing her eyes contentedly.
Ling Hanyu walked in and saw Song Qingtian smiling so brightly.
Even when she was asleep, she seemed so happy.
What a huge payoff this must be!
Song Yinyin was absolutely furious.
Clutching her phone, she refused to give up.
“Song Qingtian, I’m not done with you yet!”
She kept calling Song Qingtian, but her phone remained unreachable.
Unwilling to let it go, Song Yinyin kept trying to reach her, only to find the line still dead.
When the call finally went through, Song Yinyin felt a bit more level-headed.
She was at home, and the more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
She got up and decided to go find Song Qingtian.
She simply couldn’t believe this could be brushed aside so easily.
As she was heading downstairs, she heard Bai Ge calling from upstairs: “Yinyin!”
“Mom!”
Song Yinyin’s face turned pale with anger. Hearing Bai Ge call her name, she took a deep breath and turned to look at her.
Bai Ge stood on the upper floor, puzzled: “What’s wrong with you?”
“I… I’m going to settle the score with Song Qingtian!”
“But your dad’s body hasn’t even cooled yet! If you go after her now and something happens…”
“But Dad was killed by her!”
Song Yinyin had become obsessed, convinced that all the blame lay with Song Qingtian.
She couldn’t swallow the fact that this debt wasn’t being paid.
But the real reason was still Ling Hanyu.
Bai Ge understood this perfectly well.
Yet she chose not to correct her daughter.
Bai Ge’s hatred toward Chu Mingyue was enough to drag Song Qingtian into the mix.
Chu Mingyue had gotten a huge advantage—she’d married Song Haichao.
Song Qingtian had married Ling Hanyu.
Why should these two women get all the good things? Why should they be the ones to benefit?
Out of this mindset, Bai Ge wasn’t willing to set her daughter straight.
Bai Ge said calmly, “Even so, there has to be solid evidence. If you don’t have any proof, what’s the point of holding onto her like this?”
“I’ll find the evidence eventually. I’ve consulted a lawyer—this kind of case will definitely cost her money. Plus… while we’re in court, I can use the opportunity to get her kicked out by Ling Hanyu.”
“If you’ve made up your mind, Mom supports you!”
“Mom…”
Song Yinyin felt a bit aggrieved.
Bai Ge walked down the stairs and warned, “Be careful!”
“Oh, by the way, Mom—that little bitch Song Qingtian actually played games and used you to threaten me!”
Bai Ge’s heart skipped a beat, and her face turned pale.
“Used me?”
Song Yinyin nodded and repeated Song Qingtian’s words to Bai Ge, who instantly broke out in a cold sweat!
