Chapter 253: Why Shouldn’t I Dare?
Song Qingtian felt relieved—she knew the combination to every safe. Otherwise, dealing with it would have been quite a challenge.
It was getting late, so Song Qingtian drank a cup of warm milk and prepared to catch up on the news before heading to bed. She received a call from Qin Xiaotian. Seeing the caller ID, she knew it was him, so she didn’t answer. When she didn’t respond, Qin Xiaotian sent a text message: “Are you okay?”
Song Qingtian wasn’t interested in people—or in messages. But Shen Conghao also called her, and after a moment’s hesitation, she picked up.
“Thought you wouldn’t answer,” Shen Conghao teased.
He had just finished showering and was about to turn in for the night.
“Why didn’t you answer? We’re in the same boat now. If I’m fine, do I still need you to step in, President Shen?”
Shen Conghao was momentarily taken aback, then said, “So you’ve figured something out?”
“Do I even need to think about it? Didn’t I already buy out the photos?” Song Qingtian had already checked—the photos and the related news were gone. They’d probably vanish completely by tomorrow morning. Still, some people who saw them would keep talking about it, and others would hold onto it and make a big deal out of it—for example, Song Yinyin. So the issue wasn’t truly over; it was only a temporary fix.
Suddenly, Shen Conghao chuckled. “I knew you wouldn’t take this seriously. I’ll handle it—just as long as you’re okay.”
“What could possibly happen to me?” Song Qingtian asked.
“Then are you really okay?” Shen Conghao pressed.
Song Qingtian thought for a moment. “I’m fine.”
“You’re really fine?” Shen Conghao looked skeptical.
Song Qingtian mused, “You mean the whole ‘I’m married’ thing?”
“Does Ling Hanyu really not care about you that much?”
“…His business has nothing to do with me, and our marital issues have nothing to do with you. Today’s incident may involve just the two of us, but the responsibility lies with you. Song Yinyin came with you; she took the photos and sold them—what better way to handle it than for you to clean up the mess?”
“You sure know how to shift the blame, but it’s true—you’re involved. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. Just make sure you’re okay!”
“Stop reiterating whether I’m okay or not. Are you begging me to say I am?”
“How could I be?” Shen Conghao smiled broadly.
Song Qingtian was about to hang up when Shen Conghao asked, “Are you really okay?”
Song Qingtian glared coldly and ended the call. With half the problem solved, she could finally get some rest. Once in bed, she glanced at her phone, thinking she could relax—only to receive another call from Yang Yifan.
“Hello!”
Song Qingtian had pretty much guessed it: it was Ling Hanyu calling, though he couldn’t reach her on his own phone, so he’d borrowed Yang Yifan’s. So when Ling Hanyu spoke, Song Qingtian wasn’t surprised at all.
“Where are you?”
Ling Hanyu was at home at the time, convinced that Song Qingtian’s departure had been carefully planned—and he even wondered if her affair with Shen Conghao was deliberate.
“I’m out. Don’t worry about me, and don’t worry about Nuonuo either. We’re both doing fine.”
“So you were well-prepared?” Ling Hanyu chuckled lightly.
Song Qingtian knew Ling Hanyu must have found out what she’d taken. “When my last escape attempt failed, I figured: if you keep treating me like that and even team up with Song Yinyin, I’ll just run away. Who would’ve thought it would actually come in handy?”
Song Qingtian was being honest—there was no need for her to beat around the bush.
Leaning back on the sofa, Ling Hanyu rubbed his forehead. “It’s not a big deal. Come home and let’s talk it out.”
“We need to stay calm—especially me. I still have things to take care of right now, and they’ll affect both of us greatly. Think about it… The whole thing happened so suddenly that no one’s noticed yet, but those reporters and bloggers—they’re always on the lookout. How could they possibly let me off the hook?”
“They won’t dare!” Ling Hanyu shot back.
“But some people will.”
Song Qingtian made an obvious implication.
“Song Yinyin?”
“Maybe.”
“I’ll go find her.”
“No need. For now, I’d rather keep my distance. You go about your business, and call me tomorrow afternoon—talk to Nuonuo.”
“Song Qingtian…” Ling Hanyu sensed she was about to hang up, and he wasn’t happy. “You dare hang up?”
Song Qingtian was baffled. “Why shouldn’t I dare?”
“Then try it!”
Try it?
Song Qingtian hesitated for a moment—but she really didn’t dare!
