Chapter 255: The Parent Persona
Chapter 255: The Parent Persona
Yang Yifan said bluntly, “Keep a close eye on Song Yinyin. Our General Manager Ling doesn’t want her to end up missing an arm or a leg—of course… as for the repeated trouble your Song Family has caused, it’s time you taught them a lesson and showed them what it means to reap what they sow.”
With that, Yang Yifan turned and walked away.
Song Yingtang stood in the living room, his face growing increasingly grim.
No sooner had he returned than this happened.
Naturally, his expression was far from pleasant.
He picked up his phone and called Bai Ge.
“Watch Yinyin closely. Don’t let her wander around these next couple of days—better safe than sorry.”
Song Yingtang was only looking out for Song Yinyin; how could Bai Ge say otherwise?
After hanging up, Bai Ge went straight to find Song Yinyin.
She knocked on the door and called out.
It was the middle of the night, and Song Yinyin was half-asleep when she opened the door.
“Mom, it’s so late—what’s up?”
“What have you been up to? I told you to go to work at the company and stay away from Song Qingtian, but why wouldn’t you listen?”
Bai Ge was already investigating Song Qingtian’s activities; she worried that all the information about her was firmly in Song Qingtian’s hands, so she didn’t dare act rashly at the moment. But just one day later, another incident had occurred.
Song Yinyin wore an innocent expression. “Mom, why don’t you ask me what really happened?”
“What happened? You’ve already forgotten everything I told you?”
“I haven’t forgotten—it’s just that Song Yingtang isn’t acting in good faith. As soon as I arrived, he arranged for me to meet Shen Conghao, trying to get us together. Why should I do that? Now that Dad’s gone, he wants to bully me, treating me like some kind of hub for the company to serve its interests. I’m a person, and I have someone I like…”
“Nonsense… So you’re just going to run wild? Do you even know who Shen Conghao is? His background is incredibly powerful. If you ever do end up with him, that’ll be such a stroke of luck—yet you’re being so picky! Shen Conghao’s grandfather once received favors from your grandfather and others. This time, he’s deliberately seeking a marriage alliance with the Song Family. Otherwise… if it were our turn, I’d have had to put in a lot of effort and negotiate hard with Song Yingtang just to get you in there—and you still don’t appreciate it. Do you want to drive me crazy?”
If Bai Ge hadn’t spoken up, Song Yinyin would never have known about this.
“Mom, what are you talking about?”
“I said you’ve got a pig’s brain.”
Bai Ge was frustrated beyond words—she was truly furious.
But hearing what Song Yinyin had to say, she felt a bit relieved.
As long as it wasn’t deliberate troublemaking, Bai Ge could breathe a sigh of relief.
After all, it was something unavoidable.
So there was still room for remedy.
Still, Bai Ge couldn’t just let Song Yinyin behave like this, lest the consequences become irreparable.
Bai Ge decided to give Song Yinyin a proper lecture.
“This won’t do. Come down here and listen to me.”
Bai Ge turned and headed downstairs, where they sat on the living room sofa.
Song Yinyin followed her down and took a seat.
Bai Ge then began, “Actually, before your dad and I got married, I didn’t first meet your dad.”
Song Yinyin wasn’t quite sure what that meant, but she didn’t interrupt either—she just listened quietly.
“You probably know about my relationship with Chen Jianxiu, right? But we grew up together; we were even younger than you when we started dating. Still, our families weren’t okay with it, so we had to break up in the end.”
Song Yinyin thought that was perfectly normal, so even though Bai Ge’s explanation seemed a bit off, she could still accept it.
Bai Ge continued, “When Chen Jianxiu and I broke up, I was really upset. I ran away from home, planning to jump into the sea—but that very day, someone saved me. It was Song Yingtang.”
Now Song Yinyin’s eyes widened in surprise.
“So Mom and…”
“That’s right. I first met your third uncle. He saw me about to jump into the sea and grabbed me. He said he was born out of wedlock and wasn’t as good as me, and that’s how we started talking.”
Song Yinyin asked, “Then why did you end up with Dad later?”
“Your third uncle was a bit shy. He said he fell for me the first time he saw me, but he didn’t dare tell me. Later, I met your dad, and he immediately confessed his feelings. Your grandmother and the rest were also very happy with your dad, so they quickly accepted the betrothal gifts. And your dad really did treat me well.”
Song Yinyin looked at Bai Ge, feeling like something important had just happened.
“Mom… is there more to the story?”
“Actually, your dad knew about my relationship with your third uncle—he knew we both had feelings for each other. Especially your third uncle: he kept photos of me and even showed them around, which your dad happened to see. Your dad fell in love with those photos at first sight. Even knowing that your third uncle liked me, he still reached out to me first and arranged a chance meeting, pursuing me earnestly.”
“Dad’s so romantic!”
After all, he was her own father, so Song Yinyin naturally sided with him.
Bai Ge, however, gave a wry smile. “Yeah, but your third uncle found out about it too.”
Song Yinyin frowned. Was it really that serious?
