Chapter 299: It’s You I’m After
“Daddy!”
The one crying the hardest was Ling Nuonuo. Seeing Ling Hanyu sobbing uncontrollably, she was gasping for breath, her sobs coming in ragged bursts.
Ling Hanyu walked downstairs and picked up his daughter. Ling Nuonuo immediately clung to him, weeping bitterly.
Ling Hanyu comforted his daughter, as if he hadn’t even noticed Song Yinyin and the people she’d brought with her. But Song Yinyin stared at Ling Hanyu as though she’d seen a ghost, her mouth opening and closing but no words coming out.
It wasn’t until Ling Nuonuo stopped sniffling that Ling Hanyu looked at Song Yinyin and said, “Why don’t you have a seat?”
Song Yinyin froze.
“Jiefu…”
“Sit down!”
Ling Hanyu gestured for Song Yinyin to sit. Aunt Chen was already sobbing uncontrollably.
Ling Hanyu sat on the coffee table, holding his daughter and signaling for Song Yinyin to take a seat. Song Yinyin hesitated. “Jiefu… are you awake?”
“If I weren’t, wouldn’t you have tried to snatch my daughter away?”
Ling Hanyu looked at Song Yinyin and gave a chilling smile. His gaze was icy cold—terrifyingly so.
Song Yinyin’s heart skipped a beat from fear. “Jiefu…”
“Sit down!”
This time, Ling Hanyu was anything but gentle; his tone was icy, bone-chillingly cold. Song Yinyin turned to leave, but Ling Hanyu said, “If you dare walk out of here, not only will I drive the Song Family into bankruptcy, but I’ll also make sure you and your daughter end up as the lowest, most despised people around.”
Song Yinyin gritted her teeth and turned back to Ling Hanyu. “Actually, I just wanted to take care of Nuonuo, really, Jiefu.”
“I want you to sit down too—will you or won’t you?”
At this moment, Ling Hanyu’s gaze was so icy it seemed poisonous. Song Yinyin didn’t dare disobey and sank onto the sofa.
Song Yinyin hurriedly tried to win over Ling Nuonuo. “Nuonuo, Auntie wants to hold you!”
“Ah!”
As soon as Ling Nuonuo saw Song Yinyin, she burst into tears. She clung tightly to Ling Hanyu, clearly terrified.
Aunt Chen suddenly remembered something and wiped her tears before rushing over. “Mister, while you were gone, this woman came every day. I don’t know what she did to Miss, but the day before yesterday I was in the kitchen, and Nuonuo was waiting at the dining table for me to serve the food when she walked in. By the time I came out, Nuonuo had already run to find me and started crying.”
Ling Hanyu patted his daughter and asked, “Nuonuo, why are you crying?”
“She… she pinched me…”
Ling Nuonuo knew Aunt Chen was afraid of Song Yinyin; children are very sensitive. She didn’t dare tell anyone except Ling Hanyu and Song Qingtian. Deep down, she believed only Ling Hanyu and Song Qingtian were her protectors. There was no Daddy or Mommy—Aunt Chen kept telling her every day how to protect herself, and there were many other things she needed to learn. Now she had to grow up fast and protect Daddy and Mommy when she grew up.
But Song Yinyin kept coming over every day to provoke them. All of this made Ling Nuonuo terrified. So even when she was bullied, she didn’t dare speak up or tell Aunt Chen. Only when she saw Ling Hanyu did she finally open up.
Aunt Chen cried and said, “I knew something must be wrong—otherwise Nuonuo wouldn’t be crying so fearfully.”
“I… I didn’t do anything, Jiefu! How can you believe Nuonuo’s wild talk… you…”
“I believe Nuonuo.”
Just as Song Yinyin was trying to wriggle out of it, Song Qingtian came down from upstairs. When Ling Nuonuo saw Song Qingtian, she struggled and burst into tears again.
Song Qingtian simply walked over, gently kissed her daughter, and wiped her little face. “Nuonuo, Daddy will hold you. Mommy has something to attend to, but she’ll make it up to you later!”
“Mm.”
Ling Nuonuo felt terribly wronged, her little hands constantly wiping away her tears. Song Qingtian was deeply distressed, but she had more important things to do.
“Aunt Chen, Uncle Lin, lock the door.”
Aunt Chen didn’t even have time to be shocked—she never expected them to wake up. Strangely enough, despite the car accident, both of them only suffered minor external injuries; neither was seriously hurt, though they both fell unconscious. Aunt Chen had originally wanted them to stay in the hospital, but Uncle Lin insisted on keeping them at home. At such a critical moment, Aunt Chen lost her composure and simply followed Uncle Lin’s advice. She hurried off to lock the door.
Song Qingtian tugged at Ling Hanyu, signaling him to get up. Ling Hanyu obediently rose and went over to comfort his daughter. Song Yinyin suddenly remembered being pushed by Song Qingtian. She sat down, ready to argue, but Song Qingtian slapped her hard, leaving her dizzy and reeling.
“Song Qingtian, did you hit me?”
“I hit you because of you…”
With that, she grabbed Song Yinyin by the collar and slapped her again.
