Chapter 59: The Police Show Up

“But… between us…”

Before they could even finish the sentence, Aunt Chen’s knock came from the door.

“Mister…”

“What is it?”

Ling Hanyu glanced toward the door.

Aunt Chen replied, “The police are here. They say they’re looking for Madam.”

Ling Hanyu’s expression darkened as he handed his daughter over to Song Qingtian. “What kind of trouble have you gotten into?”

“How could I?”

Song Qingtian picked up her daughter and took a look at the divorce agreement that Ling Hanyu had kicked aside—it had slid right under the bed.

How annoying!

They’ll have to print another copy!

Ling Hanyu came downstairs and saw several policemen standing there, looking rather puzzled. “What’s wrong with my wife?”

“Nothing much. We’re just here to ask Ms. Song Qingtian a few questions.”

The officers’ expressions were serious; it was clear something important was going on.

Song Qingtian also came downstairs, holding her daughter in her arms—she was curious to know what was happening too.

The original female supporting character has always been unlucky; who knows what foolish thing she’s done now that the police have shown up!

When Ling Hanyu saw Song Qingtian coming down with her daughter, his face grew even darker. “Weren’t you feeling unwell?”

Song Qingtian looked confused. Was this help, or was he afraid she’d make a bigger scene and lose face?

“I’m feeling better now!”

Song Qingtian looked at the officers and nodded. “Hello. May I ask what this is about?”

“Nothing major—just a few simple questions. Are you Ms. Song Qingtian?” the officer asked right away.

Song Qingtian promptly pulled out her ID card. “Here’s my ID.”

The officer really did take a look, then handed it back to her. “So Qian Duoduo is your friend?”

“…Yes, why? Has something happened to her?”

Song Qingtian suddenly became worried.

“Who is Ling Hanyu to you?”

“He’s my husband… that’s him,” Song Qingtian said, pointing at him.

The officer asked, “Then do you call your husband a ‘jerk’?”

Song Qingtian’s face turned pale—she didn’t dare say a word.

Ling Hanyu’s expression grew even grimmer as he glared at Song Qingtian and said to the officer, “Just get to the point.”

“Do you know Qin Zhengxiao?” the officer continued.

Song Qingtian nodded. “I do.”

“Who is he to you?”

Ling Hanyu’s face instantly froze. “A classmate.”

Song Qingtian looked at Ling Hanyu—why would he jump in and answer for her like that?

“Is your birthday the unlock code for your phone?” the officer asked next.

Song Qingtian nodded. “It is.”

“Let me see—this is your phone, right? To track you down, we cracked your password and found it matched the birthdate on your ID. Someone picked up the phone in a trash bin outside Emperor Night Club, and surveillance footage identified three people. One of them, a man named Zhou Zishan, was confirmed to have thrown it in. We compared fingerprints and identified him.”

“Oh!”

Song Qingtian took the phone back, her eyes wide with surprise.

Why are today’s police so professional?

After checking the phone and confirming everything was in order, Song Qingtian immediately thanked them.

But the officer said, “Recently, many girls have gone missing at Emperor Night Club—some were gang-raped, and a few even died. We’re worried you might be in danger too.”

Song Qingtian instantly understood: the police were gathering evidence and had already zeroed in on Zhou Zishan as the suspect.

Chances are Zhou Zishan was just unlucky—he’d been mistakenly identified as the culprit by the police.

However, Song Qingtian couldn’t afford to make a big deal out of this. First, she wasn’t actually in any danger; second, if she casually shifted the police’s attention to Zhou Zishan, it would only let the real criminal walk free.

So, both emotionally and logically, she simply couldn’t do that.

Since she couldn’t, she needed to help the police sort through the clues so they could solve the case.
