Chapter 6: The Adulterer Shows Up
The little one’s soft, squirming lips brushed against Song Qingtian’s face, tickling her in a way that made her heart tingle with delight—so endearing, so tender and adorable!
Her heart fluttered!
A satisfied smile instantly blossomed on Song Qingtian’s face. Yet when she saw the slightly frightened look in Nuonuo’s eyes, she suddenly recalled what was written in the book: Song Qingtian had never been a proper mother; to her, her daughter was merely a tool to maintain her relationship with Ling Hanyu.
Thinking of this, the smile on her face grew even warmer as she kissed Nuonuo and gently ruffled her hair.
“Sweetie, as long as you like it, that’s all that matters. Do you need Mommy to feed you?”
“Yes!”
Ling Nuonuo could already eat by herself, but now that Mommy was showing such care, how could she possibly refuse?
Just then, Ling Hanyu had finished his bath, dressed, and walked out into the living room.
As soon as he entered the living room, he was greeted by the fragrant aroma of shrimp balls wrapped in noodles.
He went into the dining room and saw Song Qingtian feeding Nuonuo, which struck him as rather odd.
In the past, her treatment of Nuonuo hadn’t exactly been terrible, but it certainly couldn’t be called good either. He’d never seen her so patiently feed the child before. And with no nanny at home, watching Nuonuo eat like this…
Could it be that she’d made the meal herself?
He didn’t dislike this woman at all.
Back then, their marriage wasn’t solely because of the child. At least as childhood sweethearts, Song Qingtian, whom he’d known before going abroad, had always been lively and adorable. If he hadn’t felt even a bit fond of her, he wouldn’t have let her slip poison into his drink and get pregnant. Not to mention later marrying her.
But after they got married, Song Qingtian became utterly unreasonable. She grew more and more spoiled—and worse still, her heart turned cold.
Out of jealousy, she repeatedly harassed and framed Song Yinyin, only to be discovered by him.
After marriage, she was far from being a competent mother. Because she wasn’t careful enough, little Nuonuo once crawled into the washing machine and nearly got washed away, and another time got stuck in the wardrobe and almost suffocated inside.
And when it came to nurturing their marital relationship, she was single-mindedly obsessed with buying a bunch of overly revealing clothes that were hardly fit for human wear just to tempt him—and when that didn’t work, she’d slip him poison.
Not a single thing she did was right.
Yet now she looked perfectly capable.
“Did you make all this?”
“Of course!”
Song Qingtian was just about to win some extra points with her kindness when the doorbell rang. She instinctively put her hand to her forehead—surely Song Yinyin had arrived on the battlefield.
She pricked up her ears, eager to see what mischief the “white lotus” would stir up this time.
Then she heard a rough, masculine voice:
“Honey, this is wonderful! I heard you’re pregnant—twins, no less! You’ll get divorced right away, and the two of us will be together. I’ll marry you!”
Who was this person… Zheng… Zheng Baiheng?
She remembered reading in the book that Song Yinyin had arranged an adulterer for her, and that this man’s arrival directly hastened Song Qingtian’s demise.
Was this her adulterer finally showing up?
Song Qingtian instantly went into battle mode and dashed out. To her surprise, Song Yinyin was there with him too. Seeing Song Qingtian, she wore an expression of smug satisfaction as she explained:
“Sister, I’m so sorry. I just ran into this guy outside the villa. He said he was your friend, so I brought him in. I never imagined he’d turn out to be your…”
As she finished speaking, she cast a deeply apologetic glance at Ling Hanyu, who had just stepped out. Seeing the icy look on his face, she felt her heart swell with glee.
“Well, thank you very much, then.”
Song Qingtian rolled her eyes at Song Yinyin and then looked down her nose at Zheng Baiheng.
“This obviously brainless gentleman—what kind of admirer of my husband hired you? Did you even look in the mirror before you came out? You’re not even worthy to polish my husband’s shoes. Why on earth would I want to be with you!”
Song Qingtian quickly expressed her loyalty to Ling Hanyu—after all, in the book, it was precisely because Ling Hanyu had misunderstood and thought the child was hers and the adulterer’s that he’d forced her to have an abortion.
Across from her, Zheng Baiheng froze for a few seconds.
This woman and Song Yinyin’s description of her personality seemed to be quite off the mark.
“What are you talking about?”
Zheng Baiheng stared at Song Qingtian in confusion, blinking several times.
“Is it because your husband’s at home and you’re feeling uncomfortable? That’s okay. Qingtian, just get divorced from your husband, and I’ll support you. We don’t have to worry about her finding out.”
Zheng Baiheng stepped forward, ready to embrace Song Qingtian.
