Chapter 61: It’s Not Like You’ll Die Just Because You Call Someone “Husband”
Chapter 61: It’s Not Like You’ll Die Just Because You Call Someone “Husband”
“That’s right. In my view, Song Yinyin is only seeking personal revenge against me. The poisoning incident is something that could happen to anyone under the right circumstances. Although Song Yinyin and her group have done evil, they’re definitely not in cahoots with each other!”
Song Qingtian made her point crystal clear.
The police officer was quite relieved.
Upstairs, Ling Hanyu stared coldly at the scene below.
Song Qingtian knew he wouldn’t let her help, but she still wanted to pitch in.
“I’ll escort you out and, while I’m at it, I’ll give you Secretary Yang’s contact info—he’s the one you’ve been looking for.”
Song Qingtian shot the officer a glance, and the officer understood immediately, following her out the door.
Once outside, Song Qingtian said, “I can try acting as your decoy to track down those people, but you’ve got to do one thing for me in return: arrest Song Yinyin and the others and lock them up for a few days.”
“Of course we’ll do that. We need to interrogate them, but you’ve already made our job so much easier by proving they’re not the ones behind this. As for what you said…”
“I disagree. You may leave now.”
Ling Hanyu’s voice was as chilling as an ice cave.
Song Qingtian was startled and turned pale.
Turning around, she saw Ling Hanyu walking toward her—and breathed a sigh of relief when she spotted her daughter.
Ling Hanyu stepped up to Song Qingtian and addressed the officer: “If you don’t think what I said carries any weight, I can call your direct supervisor and see whether that makes a difference.”
The officer looked rather troubled. He glanced at Song Qingtian and realized that even without higher-ups’ approval, the case wouldn’t move forward if Song Qingtian’s husband refused to cooperate.
Besides, they had female officers on staff—there was no need to put an ordinary person at risk.
“All right, thank you,” the officer said, turning to walk away. Song Qingtian was left feeling helpless.
It seemed she’d have to go it alone.
After all, back then she’d been the key figure in helping that classmate solve a case, which caused a huge stir across the whole school and earned her the title of “Brave Girl Who Did Good Deeds.”
Originally, her dream was to become a policewoman who upheld justice—but unfortunately, her father had completely crushed that ambition.
Out of fear of retaliation, he arranged for her to transfer schools.
She later studied law because she wanted to become a lawyer, but that dream never came true either.
Song Qingtian turned to head back, only to bump straight into Ling Hanyu. Her forehead throbbed, and she looked up to meet his gaze. How had he gotten ahead of her so quickly?
Rubbing her head, Song Qingtian tried to step aside, but Ling Hanyu called out, “Stop right there.”
Song Qingtian halted and turned to face him. Their eyes met, and Ling Hanyu’s expression grew even colder.
It felt as though icy chill radiated from every inch of his body.
Song Qingtian knew she must have touched a nerve—something that had really angered him.
“Mr. Ling…”
Song Qingtian wasn’t sure what to call him; calling him “Boss Ling” at home didn’t seem appropriate.
Ling Hanyu often called people by their first names—or even just “husband.”
Song Qingtian was fed up!
“Mr. Ling” seemed like the most fitting and respectful way to address him.
Ling Hanyu’s face grew increasingly cold: “What did you call me before? What are you calling me now?”
“Before…” Song Qingtian pondered. In novels, people usually called their husbands “husband.”
But she couldn’t bring herself to say it.
“Oh!”
Regardless, Song Qingtian decided to agree for now. She didn’t insist on using the formal title; after all, if she didn’t use it, there was nothing she could do about it anyway.
Ling Hanyu’s gaze softened slightly: “Who was the person you saved?”
“I’ve never seen them—they were just wearing a mask.”
Song Qingtian was being quite honest.
Yet beneath Ling Hanyu’s icy stare, a layer of frost seemed to have settled.
“Did you borrow money from them?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Since she’d already been discovered, there was no point in hiding it anymore. Trying to cover things up would only make her look suspicious.
“How much?”
“Five hundred thousand.”
“And where’s the money?”
“The money’s mine.”
Song Qingtian wanted to gently remind Ling Hanyu—she even tried to sound very polite.
She’d originally planned to act demure, but she realized she wasn’t very good at it. She wanted to emulate Song Yinyin, but that approach felt too forced.
Song Qingtian was quite frustrated: as a woman, she couldn’t even manage a little bit of coquettishness!
In fact, she admired the original female supporting character—how could she keep flirting nonstop day after day? That took real strength!
But then Ling Hanyu stepped closer, lowering his gaze to look at her coldly: “Do I not have any money?”
“But that’s yours—it’s not mine.”
Song Qingtian wasn’t used to Ling Hanyu getting so close. She tried to pull away, but he wrapped both arms around her waist and pulled her right up against him.
Song Qingtian blushed and quickly pushed him away.
Ling Hanyu tightened his grip: “Hand over the money.”
“So if I call you ‘husband,’ does that mean I don’t have to hand over the money?”
Song Qingtian threw caution to the wind—so long as the money was safe, what harm could calling someone “husband” possibly do?
