Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Qin Qinxi really didn’t want to see that kind of gory scene again. She’d rather stay in.
She forced a smile, trying to sound as natural as possible: “It’s too hot outside—shall we skip it?”
This time, Vio Mansello was genuinely planning to take her out for fun.
He remembered how this little mouse had told him she was curious about Dubai.
And he recalled how, the last time he said he’d take her somewhere, her eyes lit up.
Today he was in a good mood and thought he’d give her a little tour. Who would have guessed she’d actually turn him down?
He didn’t say a word; he just stared at her. For some reason, he felt a bit annoyed.
Sensing the chill in the air, Qin Qinxi hurriedly spoke up, her voice a bit faster: “If we’re going out, can I suggest a place?”
Vio raised an eyebrow. “Jebel Ali?”
Qin Qinxi’s heart skipped a beat.
She hadn’t expected him to bring up Jebel Ali. There’s absolutely nothing fun there.
Why on earth would Chaoxiong suddenly ask that… Could he have found out something?
She definitely couldn’t let him know.
If they really did track down Uncle, or worse, if Uncle happened to see him and asked her about it, she wouldn’t know how to explain.
Uncle would surely tell Father.
Plus, Uncle’s business is based here—if she left, what if Chaoxiong started causing trouble for him?
“It’s not much fun there,” she said with a cheerful shake of her head. “I’d rather go to an amusement park and ride the roller coaster. Is there an amusement park around here?”
Actually, Qin Qinxi loved thrill rides.
Back home, when she rode roller coasters, some guys screamed louder than the girls.
She was really curious to hear whether this man would scream when he went on one.
Vio gave her a mocking smirk.
“Childish. Still acting like a kid, riding a roller coaster.”
Qin Qinxi couldn’t make sense of the look on his face.
She kept smiling and spoke up, her tone slightly provocative: “You wouldn’t… dare to ride one, would you?”
Her voice softened, and she stopped looking at him, glancing away instead. “When I used to ride these kinds of thrill rides, most of the people were girls.”
“Like thrill rides, huh?” the man finally said.
Qin Qinxi paused, turned to look at him, and nodded. “You know—the kind where your heart drops and it’s super exciting.”
Vio snorted and gave a slight nod. “Let’s go.”
He took two steps back, then turned and walked ahead.
Qin Qinxi felt a faint thrill in her chest as she hurried after him.
The elevator descended, and when they reached the garage, a blast of cool air hit them.
For once, Qin Qinxi didn’t see that ice-cold expression on his face.
In the garage, next to every car stood a black-suited driver and security guard, hands clasped behind their backs, posture perfectly straight.
There were seven or eight cars parked in the garage—luxury vehicles of all kinds.
Vio strolled over, hands in his pockets, at a leisurely pace toward the black McLaren MP4-12C.
The car had gull-wing doors and a low-slung body, its matte-black finish gleaming with a cool, understated sheen under the lights.
The security guard pressed the key fob, and the McLaren’s headlights came on. The doors swung upward like spreading wings.
Vio walked over, and the security guard bowed slightly, handing him the keys.
Qin Qinxi quickly circled around to the passenger seat.
It was her first time ever riding in a sports car—and her first time seeing this man drive one, too.
The door was heavy; it took her two tugs to open it. Once she sat down, the seat was so low that she practically sank into it.
With the seatbelt fastened, she stole a glance at the man beside her.
He had one hand resting on the steering wheel while the other adjusted the seatback, his posture relaxed—as if he were used to driving like this all the time.
The engine roared to life, deep and powerful, unlike the hum of ordinary cars.
After crossing a sea-crossing bridge, the road stretched out smooth and wide.
Suddenly, right on the bridge, Vio began accelerating, and the engine rumbled to life.
Qin Qinxi’s back slammed hard against the seat. She widened her eyes and turned to look at him.
