Chapter 51: Chapter 51

Qin Qinxi was shaking violently, her lips trembling and her teeth chattering softly.

She prayed these people were Vio Mansello’s men.

If they were members of the Criminal Underworld…

Then Chaoxiong would be the boss.

They must be his henchmen, right?

Why else would they come over now—surely they thought they were being followed?

A few of them exchanged glances, then turned back to scrutinize her from head to toe.

The Leader frowned.

“Who are you?” he asked. “What’s your relationship with him?”

The others behind him scanned their surroundings.

“I…” Qin Qinxi’s voice trembled so badly she could barely make out the words. “I’m… I’m with him…”

What was she with him for? She wasn’t anything to him at all.

The Leader clearly had little patience left.

“Answer quickly,” he said. His voice wasn’t loud, but every word felt like a stone crashing down.

Qin Qinxi swallowed hard and stammered, “I’m his friend!”

The others glanced at each other again, their brows slightly furrowed.

The boss had a female friend?

One of them holstered his gun and opened the rear door.

Qin Qinxi hurried out of the car.

Her legs went weak with fear; when her feet hit the ground, her knees buckled, and she had to grab the door to steady herself.

The streetlamp light shone on her face, making it deathly pale.

The Leader barked at the driver, “Get lost!”

The driver shot Qin Qinxi a glance, wiped the sweat from his brow, and replied in a quivering voice, “Yes, yes, yes!”

He fumbled with the gears, his hands shaking so badly he almost dropped the steering wheel.

This time, Qin Qinxi was certain these people were Vio’s men.

They hadn’t pointed their guns at her—not even given her a second look.

She breathed a sigh of relief and felt a bit braver.

“Wait!”

The driver slammed on the brakes, and everyone turned to look at her.

Qin Qinxi didn’t want to feel guilty.

She figured that since they’d driven her all the way here and run into this group with guns, she really had put them through a lot.

They were just doing their job—driving from that restaurant to here wasn’t a short trip, and it must have cost them a lot of gas. She couldn’t take advantage of them for free.

She looked up at the Leader and mustered the courage to say, “Excuse me, could you help me pay the fare?”

“How about… how about letting Vio repay you later?”

She paused, then added in an increasingly soft voice, “Don’t worry, I’ll pay you double—just ask him, and I’ll give it back to you.”

The others exchanged another glance, said nothing, and actually handed the driver some money.

It wasn’t Dirham—it was U.S. dollars, one bill tossed through the window.

The driver’s eyes widened, his hands shaking as he caught it, and he kept thanking them over and over.

The two cars ahead sped off, and the driver didn’t dare stop for a moment; with a sudden burst of acceleration, they vanished without a trace.

No sooner had the driver pulled away than the Leader walked toward the car.

Qin Qinxi had been about to follow, but then she saw the masked man inside.

The man stepped out of the car.

At first, Qin Qinxi thought he looked a lot like Vio—but as she got closer, she suddenly realized he didn’t quite match.

He wore a black mask and sunglasses, his face completely covered. Though his outfit and demeanor were exactly like Vio’s, there was still something about him that felt utterly unfamiliar.

Just as the man was about to walk over to her, suddenly—pfft!

The bullet missed the masked man and struck one of his mazai instead.

The man fell straight to the ground without a sound.

The atmosphere instantly grew tense.

Everyone raised their guns and swept their sights around.

It seemed another group had appeared out of nowhere.

Several cars with their headlights off suddenly switched on at once, their blinding white beams forcing everyone to squint.
