Chapter 131: Counterattack 57
Ming Yue slept soundly.
When she woke up, she was in her own room.
But there was one more person in the room.
Jiang Feng.
He was sleeping right beside her, his eyes tightly shut, one large hand resting on her waist, fast asleep.
Ming Yue didn’t wake him or pull back the covers to get out of bed; instead, she shifted slightly onto her side and quietly watched the man next to her.
Bored, she reached out a finger and gently traced the lines of his brows and eyelids.
As she drew her finger across his face, his lips suddenly twitched, and a barely perceptible smile played at the corner of his mouth.
Ming Yue immediately stopped, her expression stern as she asked, “You were pretending to sleep, weren’t you?”
“No.”
Jiang Feng finally opened those eyes that had been strained shut for so long, yawned, and put on a show of smiling at the person beside him.
Even though he hadn’t seen her playing with his face just now, the thought alone made him feel as sweet as honey.
He also turned onto his side, gazing quietly at the delicate little face before him, then reached out a finger to lightly brush her brows and eyelids. “It’s just that I can’t bear to wake up—I wasn’t deliberately pretending to sleep.”
“When did you wake up?”
Ming Yue kept a stony expression.
Jiang Feng’s finger was still dancing along her brow. “When you first touched my face.”
“Oh, so you’d already been awake all along, just teasing me!”
With that, she turned away, her back to the unnamed male operative.
The unnamed male operative immediately followed, wrapping his long arm around her soft, slender waist and pulling her whole body into his warm embrace. “No, really. I already told you—there’s absolutely no way I wanted to wake up; I just wanted to stay like this, happy forever.”
“Liar.”
Ming Yue’s anger hadn’t yet subsided.
Jiang Feng’s hand didn’t loosen either.
He pulled her even closer, remaining silent for what felt like an eternity. After who knows how long, he finally whispered again in her ear, “Yesterday, after you fell asleep, Lao Chen sent a video—it was from your mother. Do you want to see it?”
“My mom…”
She didn’t immediately say yes, nor did she refuse; instead, the words caught in her throat and she swallowed them back.
Jiang Feng pressed his thin lips against her ear while reaching over with his other hand to grab his phone and play the video Lao Chen had sent last night for Ming Yue.
The clip showed exactly what had happened after they left yesterday: their mother, Song Hui Yun, standing barefoot by the window, watching them drive away.
“Lao Chen said she’s calmed down now,” Jiang Feng murmured softly in Ming Yue’s ear. “Though she was only conscious for a brief moment, it looks like she really did hear what you said yesterday.”
Ming Yue still said nothing, staring silently at the screen until her eyes grew red.
“At least we can breathe a sigh of relief for now. What should we do next? Are we heading back to Ning City to stir things up?” Jiang Feng asked tentatively, holding her close.
Ming Yue shook her head.
Jiang Feng pressed, “Not going back?”
“Of course not.”
“Then…”
In fact, he pretty much guessed what Ming Yue was about to do next.
But some things are best left unsaid.
Ming Yue didn’t rush to answer; she turned off the screen on his phone, turned around, and looked straight into his eyes, asking, “Jiang Feng, tell me—when is the scariest time for someone?”
“Hm?”
“Go on, tell me.”
“Why, when you’re facing death and danger, of course.”
“That’s all?”
“Isn’t it?”
Ming Yue shook her head. “Of course not.”
Jiang Feng followed up, “Then what is it?”
“It’s when you know danger is right beside you, but you still have no idea what that danger actually is.” She gently tapped his nose and slowly curled her lips into a mischievous smile. “Chinese-style horror—you must know what that is, right?”
