Chapter 148: Counterattack 74
When Jiang Feng found him again, he had completely transformed, sitting beside Jiang Feng’s seat, his whole body covered in bite marks. “Feng Ge, you’re looking for me?”
“Well, well, you little rascal…” Jiang Feng mused, his narrow eyes narrowing as he studied Xiao Hu for a long while before teasing, “I asked you to protect someone—turns out you ended up doing something good on the side?”
“Hehe…”
Xiao Hu gave an idiotic grin.
Having never experienced that kind of life before, he now somewhat understood why the Boss was so fond of clinging to Sao Zi. Just like him—if it weren’t absolutely necessary, he’d rather die by Xi Xi’s side.
“You took the initiative?”
Jiang Feng slapped him hard on the back of the head.
Xiao Hu rubbed his head in annoyance. “No.”
“Did she take the initiative?” Jiang Feng stroked his chin, clearly incredulous. As far as he knew, Lin Xi was a woman utterly obsessed with Ming Kai. If he hadn’t known about that, it might have been one thing—just giving up on oneself and randomly picking anyone to pass the lonely time with.
But… that person must have approached her. There were some things she should know even better than Ming Yue—so why did she end up going after Xiao Hu?
Jiang Feng really couldn’t wrap his head around it.
At this point, Xiao Hu innocently spoke up again, “It doesn’t matter anymore, Feng Ge. What did you want to see me about? Let me be clear: that day I wasn’t trying to avoid you—it was Xi… Sister Xi really got hurt, and I was worried. And then… then Sister Xi didn’t seem willing—or didn’t want—to meet with Sao Zi at that time, so we just…”
“I figured as much. Your Sao Zi probably guessed it too.”
Jiang Feng said irritably, slapping Xiao Hu on the back of the head once more.
Xiao Hu pouted and grumbled, “Stop hitting me, or you’ll really make me stupid! Xi Xi wouldn’t like a fool!”
“Well, well! Look at you—grown wings in just a few days! Want to bet I’ll send you on another mission right now?”
Jiang Feng couldn’t stand to see him like this, so he threatened, “If you keep acting like this, I’ll go find your Sao Zi.”
“Oh really? You’re threatening me now? What do you plan to say to your Sao Zi? What could you possibly tell her? Are you going to file a complaint against me or something?”
Jiang Feng raised his big hand again, instinctively reaching out to slap Xiao Hu on the back of the head.
This time, Xiao Hu immediately shielded himself. “Feng Ge, you’ve got it all wrong! How dare I? I just wanted… just wanted to chat casually with Sao Zi—for example, about your insomnia problem… How could I possibly complain about you?”
“You brat! And you still call that not a threat? You even brought up that issue—what, are you planning to rebel?”
Jiang Feng gritted his teeth.
Xiao Hu chuckled.
The two bantered for a bit longer before getting back to business.
Jiang Feng asked, “By the way, let me ask you something: has Lin Xi been in contact with that mysterious person these past few days—the shadow from the time she disappeared?”
“I don’t know if it’s the same person, but Sister Xi can be pretty mysterious sometimes. Sometimes she’ll just disappear for no reason while we’re walking around.”
“You? You’re supposed to be following her and still lose track of her? Do you think I’m an idiot?”
Jiang Feng was furious. For a moment, he felt as though the cabbage he’d worked so hard to grow had been eaten by a pig—but when he thought about Lin Xi’s image and demeanor, it didn’t feel like his own cabbage had been eaten; it felt more like his own pig had eaten someone else’s cabbage.
Either way, he felt really uneasy, like something just wasn’t right.
Xiao Hu grinned sheepishly. “Even experts slip up sometimes.”
“Get lost! You really think I’m an idiot? If you can’t bear to part with her, then don’t—stop pretending in front of me. Bet I’ll really pull you off this job!”
Jiang Feng threatened again.
