Chapter 169: Counterattack 95
“Let’s talk about the future when the time comes.”
Ming Yue didn’t want to dwell on the matter with Jiang Feng; she simply replied softly before turning her gaze to the night view of Ning City outside the balcony.
Jiang Feng, too, refrained from further discussion on the subject.
As he headed toward the kitchen, he cast one last glance at the woman on the balcony, his eyes gradually growing dimmer, before turning away and walking silently into the kitchen without a word.
Because of Fu Qiancheng, the two who had once been inseparably close spent most of the night in an awkward silence. Though they hadn’t exchanged a single harsh word, the atmosphere was even more suffocating than after a heated argument.
Both were proud individuals, neither willing to yield first.
Even when lying side by side, they kept their backs turned to each other.
“You won’t look at me.
I won’t look at you either.”
Through the entire night, the tension remained unchanged, and the cold of the darkness did not seem to penetrate the room.
Ming Yue had other plans, so she got up early, quietly packed her things, and was about to leave with her bag on her back. But just before departing, she paused, turned around, and slowly walked over to the man who was still “asleep.” She set down her backpack, then sat gently on the edge of the bed.
“Are you asleep?”
Ming Yue asked.
In truth, she could tell at a glance whether he was really asleep or not—after all, aside from his stubbornly uncooperative eyelashes, she knew exactly when he would wake up.
But since he had his eyes tightly shut, she could only go along with the charade.
Sure enough, the “sleeping” man seemed oblivious to her voice, keeping his eyes firmly closed, never even slightly ajar, nor offering the slightest response.
Ming Yue raised an eyebrow and thought to herself, “How childish.”
After a moment of silence, she patiently reached out and gently placed her hand on his brow. “If you’re asleep, then be asleep. Jiang Feng, there are some things I’d rather not say to you when you’re awake.
I know we’ve argued about Fu Qiancheng more than once or twice, and each time it ends in a bitter parting.
You have your own goals, and I have my own bottom line. We’re both extremely proud and stubborn people, and neither of us is willing to easily give in to the other.
So as far as Fu Qiancheng is concerned, I’m not going to explain myself to you, nor am I going to keep arguing with you about this issue.”
Ming Yue took a deep breath, then continued to gently stroke Jiang Feng’s eyebrows, followed by his face, before letting out another sigh and resuming her earlier words.
“I really don’t want Fu Qiancheng to be upset—what I truly want is for him to live well. I certainly don’t want you to hurt Fu Qiancheng.
But there’s one thing I want you to know: Jiang Feng, Fu Qiancheng and I are already a thing of the past. No matter how much he clings to me or keeps pursuing me, I will never go back.
In the second half of his life, he can have Zhao Yue, Qian Yue, Sun Yue, Li Yue… countless others—anyone but me, Ming Yue.”
As she spoke, Ming Yue recalled some old memories.
They were years that belonged solely to her and Fu Qiancheng—their naive, foolish dreams about the world before they truly understood it.
Back then, he was sheltered by his family and knew nothing of the world’s hardships; she, cherished by her older brother, was equally unaware of human warmth and coldness.
They were like two flowers just blossomed from the greenhouse, dreaming the simplest, purest dreams under the brightest sun.
But those dreams eventually shattered, and everything turned out to be illusory.
