Chapter 189: Counterattack 115

Ming Yue: …

Lin Xi: …

And just like that, the matter was settled.

Right before going to bed, Ming Yue sent Lin Xi and Xiao Hu a bunch of information on Zhang Yang, Zhang Yang’s parents, and Xiao Yu—the best friend of Liu Qingqing—and then, clutching her laptop, she began poring over details about Zhang Yang and Liu Qingqing.

As she pondered, she gradually drifted off to sleep.

Her laptop was left unattended, and she wasn’t even covered with a blanket—she just lay there.

But not long after she’d fallen into a daze, a familiar presence wafted into her nostrils. Before she could even open her eyes, someone had already tucked away her laptop, pulled the covers over her, shaken off the chill in the air, and slipped straight into her bed.

Ming Yue half-woke, cracking open her eyes just a sliver, convinced she was dreaming. She instinctively wrapped her arms around the unnamed male operative’s strong waist and said, “How come you keep showing up in my dreams? Jiang Feng, you sure have some nerve!”

“Would I dare like you if I didn’t have guts?”

“If you didn’t have guts, your brother would’ve beaten you to death already!”

Of course, Jiang Feng didn’t say that. A smile played on his lips; all his fatigue vanished in an instant. He gently pinched Ming Yue’s pretty nose and pulled her into his embrace.

That night, he drove nonstop from Ning City to An City, bearing pain and injuries all over his body—but not a single complaint came out of him.

Because he missed her so much.

After so many days spent together, suddenly being without her made the whole world seem dull and colorless.

On the way, he got a message from Xiao Hu saying she’d used a beauty trap on that Zhang Yang.

His blood pressure shot up immediately. He floored the gas pedal and sped all the way to An City, right to her side, where he pulled her into his arms once more.

Ming Yue still hadn’t fully woken up, still thinking it was a dream. She closed her eyes, found a more comfortable position in his embrace, and drifted back to sleep.

Jiang Feng couldn’t bear to wake her, so he held her tightly, contentedly drifting off to sleep alongside her.

He didn’t do anything else—he just held her like this.

And that alone seemed enough; there was no need for more, nor did he really want any more.

By dawn, the sky was just beginning to lighten. The man was already awake but still reluctant to let go of her—or to leave. With a warm smile, he held her close, quietly soaking in the energy of heaven and earth until she’d slept her fill, stretched lazily, opened her eyes, and spotted him. Her expression turned one of surprise as she looked at him and said, “Jiang Feng! How did you get here? How did you even come in? What are you doing here? I’m warning you—stay out of my business in An City! Xiao Hu and Sister Lin Xi are my bottom line!”

“I know, I know. It’s early in the morning—why are you so tense? I just missed you, that’s all. Don’t worry!”

Jiang Feng habitually pinched Ming Yue’s nose again. The feel was nice, and the smile on his lips grew even wider.

Only then did Ming Yue lower her guard. She lay back down in Jiang Feng’s arms, listening to his strong heartbeat, and lazily said, “When are you leaving?”

“You just got here and already want me to go?”

Jiang Feng’s tone was laced with resentment, like a petulant little wife.

Ming Yue traced circles on his chest with her finger. “Then why are you staying here? You’ve got such big goals—what if you expose me?”

“Am I that stupid?”

“Who knows?”

“Ming Yue!”

“What is it?”

“Can you stop looking down on me?”

“No!”
