Chapter 201: Counterattack 128

“The Elder Zhang Couple has already set out in the direction you mapped out. They’ll probably be staying in Ning City for the next few days. Qing Qing, do you want to head back to Ning City for a few days?”

Jiang Feng lay half-reclined beside Ming Yue, idly playing with her hair as he casually asked.

Ming Yue turned onto her side and gazed out at the night view beyond the window, replying nonchalantly, “Why go back? All they’re after is Liu Qingqing. Whatever they want, we can just give it to them—why would I even need to go myself?”

“Do you know the private detective that Old Man Zhang’s been in touch with?”

Jiang Feng rested one hand on Ming Yue’s waist.

Ming Yue shook her head lightly. “No.”

“Then you…”

“You could meet him anytime. But…”

She deliberately drew out the words, waiting until the large hand on her waist unconsciously tightened its grip, before she let out a little giggle and turned her head to reply, “But I’m guessing someone’s about to get jealous.”

“Who’s ‘someone’?”

Jiang Feng started tickling her.

Ming Yue covered her face with the blanket, laughing even harder. “Well, I don’t know—whoever it is, it’s not me. Right, Mr. Jiang?”

“Fine, so you’ve learned to play me now!”

Jiang Feng intensified his tickling, and after only a short while, Ming Yue gave up, grabbing his big hands and hastily saying, “Alright, alright, I’m not teasing you anymore—and you stop tickling me too. I’ve already made arrangements for that matter. I’ve contacted Gu Yanxing; he happens to be in this line of business, a seasoned pro in these circles. He’ll convey what I want to tell the Elder Zhang Couple over the next few days.”

“So it was him all along,” Jiang Feng said, lying back down and stopping the tickling.

But just thinking of Gu Yanxing suddenly brought another sickly man to mind.

Although Gu Yanxing hadn’t said a thing, Jiang Feng could tell that Fu Qiancheng had grown suspicious and had even begun an investigation.

If he wasn’t mistaken, the car that had been tailing him all the way through Ning City today but ultimately managed to shake him off belonged to Fu Qiancheng.

Still, Jiang Feng didn’t mention any of this to Ming Yue.

He pulled her close again, inhaling the familiar, delicate fragrance of her skin, and said in a relaxed tone, “Qing Qing, isn’t there anything you need me to do? You’ve already gone to that young man—why not come to me at all?”

“Are you bored out of your mind?”

Ming Yue shot back, clearly annoyed.

Jiang Feng paused, then wrapped her tightly in his arms. “Bored, maybe not—but I am a bit uncomfortable. Who told you not to let me tag along?”

“…” Ming Yue rolled her eyes. “Can’t you speak normally for once? I’m getting goosebumps all over!”

Jiang Feng nodded. “Sure can.”

“Then speak normally.”

“Okay.” Jiang Feng adjusted almost instantly, returning to his usual self within a second, and asked while holding Ming Yue close, “Are you confident about everything here? Have you considered the possibility of any unexpected hiccups—or whether that Liu person might have some hidden trump cards?”

“Don’t you trust me?”

“Not exactly. My Qing Qing is the best; there’s nothing to worry about.”

“Then why are you asking…?”

“Because I’m still a little worried,” he said suddenly, pulling her even closer and pressing his thin lips against her cool ear, his voice growing suddenly husky. “Qing Qing, we’re both pitiful people in this world. We’ve already endured far too much hardship—we can’t afford even a little more suffering, let alone another wound. From now on, we must take good care of ourselves!”

A trace of weathered sorrow crept into his voice.
