Chapter 214: Counterattack 141

The two of them traded punches and kicks, going back and forth in a fierce exchange.

In no time at all, they had both been beaten black and blue, looking like two wounded soldiers.

Fortunately, Jiang Feng had chosen a secluded spot by the roadside—there wasn’t a soul around except for the two of them locked in a brawl.

As they fought on, both were utterly exhausted, lying side by side on the grass, gazing up at the clear blue sky and the slowly drifting white clouds, letting out long sighs now and then, occasionally baring their teeth.

“With such a fiery temper, did you just have a fight with our Yueyue? Or did you get your tail kicked by her?” Gang Zi asked, landing another punch on Jiang Feng’s chest—though not as hard as before, it was still far from a light tap.

Jiang Feng returned the blow with equal force, then gave the man beside him a wry smile and said, “I told Mingyue about my relationship with Fu Qiancheng. I even confessed to her my original motives for approaching her in the first place.”

“Oh really?”

Gang Zi instantly turned to look at him, teasing, “Well, well—has the sun risen in the west? You’re actually willing to spill the beans now? I even made a bet with our young master that you’d never talk about it. But the Da Shaoye insisted it wasn’t so sure. So, tell me—what suddenly made you see the light?”

“It was Lin Xi who reminded me,” Jiang Feng admitted honestly.

Gang Zi was taken aback, staring at Jiang Feng in astonishment. “Lin Xi? How could she possibly know all this? Neither the Da Shaoye nor I ever told her—how on earth would she have found out?”

“She’s so smart; I’m guessing she must have picked up on some clues. She may not know every single detail, but she certainly caught on to the gist of it.”

Jiang Feng didn’t think Gang Zi was lying.

There was no way Lin Xi could have known about his dealings with the Fu family—nor could Gang Zi or Ming Kai have spilled the beans to her. The only explanation was that she had used her own wits to piece everything together.

Hearing this, Gang Zi nodded in satisfaction. “You’ve got a point. Lin Xi really does have a sharp mind. Who would’ve thought she could lie low by Liu Jia’s side for so many years and even manage to steer Liu Jia completely off course? What a pity—a truly wonderful girl! Too bad she ended up falling for your little tiger instead! If it weren’t for our Da Shaoye’s approval, I’d have beaten that brat half to death!”

“Gang Zi, have you ever thought about it?”

Ignoring Gang Zi’s jab, Jiang Feng shot back a question.

Gang Zi immediately shot back, “Thought about what?”

After a moment’s thought, Jiang Feng said, “Have you ever considered why Lin Xi, after spending so many years single and quietly avenging the men she loved and respected without ever thinking about herself or getting involved with any random guys, would suddenly decide to go for Xiao Hu? Of course, I’m not saying your Xiao Hu is unworthy of Lin Xi—I know full well what kind of kid I’ve raised—but it still feels a bit too sudden, almost like a dream.”

“What exactly are you trying to say?”

Gang Zi snapped irritably.

He, too, felt regret and sadness over Lin Xi.

But when it came to the Da Shaoye’s decision, what choice did he have other than respect and obedience?

Jiang Feng sighed, withdrew his hand from Gang Zi’s chest to shield his eyes from the blinding sun, parted his thin lips, and slowly let out a sentence: “What I’m getting at is—could it be that Lin Xi deliberately chose to end up with Xiao Hu precisely at the moment she met Ming Kai…?”

Before Jiang Feng could finish, Gang Zi cut in: “Are you saying Lin Xi rushed into a relationship with Xiao Hu only after seeing how our young master looks now—that she found our young master repulsive once she saw his condition and quickly secured herself a new partner?”
