Chapter 22: Chapter 22
Mother and daughter Liu’s pupils contracted slightly, and they immediately looked up at Ming Yue on the upper floor with alert eyes.
Ming Yue didn’t even glance at the two of them; instead, she smiled sweetly at her silent father, Ming Shuo, downstairs. “Hey, dear Dad, please don’t just sit there in silence! Can’t you give me a straight answer?
I’m not asking for much—just that I happened to hear that Miss Liu is going to work at your company, taking charge of some new project or another. Right now I’m an unemployed drifter, and it really isn’t good for my image to be loafing around all day.
Besides, it seems like you’re not planning to give me the things I asked for before anytime soon either. Why don’t you offer me a position similar to Miss Liu’s? If that’s not possible, even half a level below would do.
I’m easygoing—I promise I won’t cause any trouble. More than that, I guarantee I won’t act recklessly or slack off. I’ll always put your interests and the company’s first, and once I’m at the office I’ll work hard for you, slaving away to earn money and support you!
Don’t worry—I may not like you and always want to argue with you, but I can tell who’s on the same boat as me and who’s not. I can also tell whose interests I’m aligned with!”
Liu Lai was fed up to the ears.
What a long-winded speech, full of sycophantic flattery too.
Is this crazy woman okay?
What on earth is she on about now?
But Liu Qinxin wasn’t as naive as her son.
Hearing this, she instantly understood why Ming Shuo had been so angry at Ming Xia earlier today. She drew in a sharp breath, her little hand clenching into a fist, and shot an incredulous glance at Ming Yue upstairs.
It was unbelievable—yet she still wore that trademark smile.
But she knew: Jiajia’s hard-won chance to enter Huiqing was now slim to none! In fact, it was very likely that Jiajia would never again have the opportunity to secure a place at Huiqing!
How ruthless!
How vicious!
This Ming Yue may seem crazy and unreliable, but with just a few casual words she’d easily ruined Jiajia’s future!
And she did it calmly, neither too early nor too late—right at the moment when Ming Xia and Jiajia were putting Brother Shuo and Huiqing in the spotlight, just when Brother Shuo was harboring resentment toward Ming Xia and Jiajia!
What a troublesome mad girl!
Compared with her own mother, Song Huiyun, who went mad and could only cry and make a scene in the mental hospital, this fearless lunatic was far more difficult to deal with—almost like…
Liu Jia, meanwhile, was furious. She couldn’t understand what Ming Yue’s real intention was and thought Ming Yue was trying to compete with her for a spot at Dad’s company, vying for his favor.
Her face had already turned dark, and she was about to scold Ming Yue harshly.
But suddenly her mother, Liu Qinxin, pinched her hard on the waist, forcing her to swallow the words she’d already brought to her lips. Confused, she looked at her mother, who had repeatedly stopped her from speaking.
Liu Qinxin just shook her head, signaling her not to say anything.
Ming Shuo looked up again, slowly at his rebellious daughter Ming Yue upstairs. He didn’t agree, but he didn’t refuse either—he just stared at her quietly, lost in thought.
“Fine, if you won’t agree, then forget it. Why not just lie down and do nothing? I don’t even want to work yet! Just eating free meals here is great! You old miser,” Ming Yue said lazily, then turned and walked away.
She hadn’t taken two steps when Nanny Zhao hurried out from outside, flustered. “Mr., Mrs., something terrible has happened—Ming Xia was hit by a car on her way out, and the old lady is kneeling beside her, crying hysterically!”
“What?”
The dark cloud on Ming Shuo’s face instantly dissipated. He set aside all his thoughts for the moment, ignored Ming Yue, and rushed out immediately.
Liu Qinxin and Liu Lai followed him out as well.
Of course, Liu Lai was laughing behind her, curious to see exactly how badly that fat woman had been hit—whether she was dead or, like that unlucky Ming Yao, left disabled after a single collision.
Then there was Nanny Zhao.
Only Liu Jia remained sitting in the living room.
Ming Yue had originally planned to go back inside, but when she heard such shocking news, she lost all interest in returning and quickly turned around to go back upstairs to watch the show.
She glanced outside the Ming household.
She glanced down at Liu Jia downstairs.
Then she began counting softly.
As she counted from one to eight in a low voice, Ming Xia, with a “wound” on her forehead, was carried in by Ming Shuo. She was already unconscious, completely out of it, with Ma Fengying and Nanny Zhao on either side, supporting her as they carried her.
Liu Qinxin and Liu Lai followed behind.
Liu Lai muttered under her breath, “Mom, wasn’t she knocked unconscious by the car? Where are the car and the person who hit her? Why didn’t we see anything on the road? And why didn’t Dad take her to the hospital? Why carry her home instead?”
“Adults’ business is for adults to discuss—kids shouldn’t pry! Go play by yourself.”
Liu Qinxin gently reprimanded him, leaving her son in the living room. She poured herself a glass of water and quietly followed along, joining Ming Shuo and Ma Fengying as they carried Ming Xia up to her bedroom on the second floor and began attending to her there.
Ming Yue watched the whole time with a cold eye, a faint smile playing on her lips—she saw right through it but chose not to speak up.
