Chapter 232: Counterattack 159
The next morning, Jiang Feng got up early and prepared breakfast. After Ming Yue had eaten, he personally drove her to Ancheng.
“What’s the situation here now?” Jiang Feng asked as he drove.
Ming Yue yawned and said casually, “Lao Zhang and his wife have already returned. Liu Qingqing’s entourage is also distancing themselves from her as I had planned, and her best friend even fought with her last night. But…” Ming Yue suddenly frowned.
Jiang Feng turned to look at her and asked gently, “But what?”
“Liu Qingqing seems to have been quite shaken; she’s been a bit dazed these past couple of days. I originally wanted to investigate, but…” Ming Yue hesitated, then after some inner struggle finally voiced her concern. “Jiang Feng, you didn’t interfere, did you? You didn’t hire someone to scare her, did you?”
She stared intently into Jiang Feng’s eyes, not blinking once.
Yet there seemed to be nothing unusual about him at all. The unnamed male operative sitting in the driver’s seat simply shook his head and said, “No, of course not. You specifically told me not to get involved—how could I possibly take it upon myself to meddle in this?”
“That’s really strange. Why does she suddenly seem so off? It’s just… weird,” Ming Yue muttered to herself.
Then she recalled the very first time she’d suspected something and wanted to look into it. But strangely enough, there was someone even more capable than she was—no matter how hard she tried to intervene, she just couldn’t succeed.
This made Ming Yue very uneasy. Especially since she’d had this feeling more than once already. And during this period, her father—who had disappeared for such a long time—seemed to have sensed something too. Her people vanished without a trace. Even when she tried to check his communication devices, she failed. Ming Shuo had changed his phone. He’s currently missing.
She wasn’t afraid that he’d suddenly show up and demand an explanation, but she was worried that the unnamed male operative might quietly get close to her younger brother.
Jiang Feng seemed to sense her anxiety. While she was still pondering, he suddenly reached out with a large hand and enveloped hers, saying softly, “Could it be that the woman herself has done too many evil things and is now being retaliated against?”
“Unlikely. That kind of person fears power but not virtue; she won’t shed a tear until she sees the coffin. It’s hardly possible for her to be easily frightened. Whoever scared her must have done something pretty serious,” Ming Yue shook her head.
Jiang Feng understood what she meant, but he couldn’t immediately point it out, so he continued to comfort her: “You’re overestimating her. She’s just a vicious, profit-driven opportunist who changes her tune depending on the wind. She doesn’t have the guts to pull off something like that. In my opinion, it’s more likely that she’s reaping what she sowed—getting hit back by her own actions. For us, that’s not a bad thing at all.”
“You’re oversimplifying it,” Ming Yue said, a little exasperated. “He’s usually so cautious—this isn’t like him at all.”
Jiang Feng smiled, didn’t argue further, and instead squeezed her hand tighter. “Maybe so. But Yue’er, don’t worry—no matter what happens, I’m always here! I’ll be your rock-solid support, and I’ll protect Grandpa, Yaoyao, and everyone else, too. So don’t be afraid—just keep moving forward bravely. Don’t say you’re the most level-headed person around; even if you do make a huge mistake, I’ve got your back. No need to fear!”
“Jiang Feng…” Ming Yue turned her head to look at the man beside her, and a beautiful smile involuntarily spread across her lips.
After a brief pause, she finally parted her thin lips and said to him, “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome.”
