Chapter 254: Counterattack 181
“You!”
Liu Qingqing’s pain point was struck by a single sentence from Zhang’s father, like a wild dog whose tailbone has been stepped on—immediately baring its teeth and snarling.
In front of Zhang Yang, Liu Qingqing dropped all pretense.
She bared her fangs.
After all, Zhang Yang had spent many years in the social scene, rising to prominence among the elite. Even though he’d always kept a filter over Liu Qingqing because of her beauty and her careful disguise, the moment she revealed this attitude before him, the image she held in his mind crumbled in an instant.
He forced himself not to vent his frustration, merely staring at the woman before him with an unusually cold gaze.
Zhang’s father and mother, however, were anything but careless. They let out two scornful snorts and softly said to the furious Liu Qingqing, “Miss Liu, I advise you to keep your voice down. If it gets too loud and disturbs the onlookers outside, it won’t look good for your reputation when we end up arguing later.”
Liu Qingqing’s face turned completely black.
Zhang’s mother let out another cold huff. “And besides, Miss Liu—you’re so smart; how could you not realize that we old folks couldn’t possibly stir up such a big commotion? Clearly, there’s someone powerful behind all this, pulling the strings. Rather than wasting time blaming us, you’d be better off using this moment to think carefully about just how much evil you and your family have done over the years, how many people you’ve harmed, and what exactly motivates the person who set this huge trap to target you.”
With that, Zhang’s mother didn’t want to linger another moment. She gave her husband, Zhang’s father, a quick glance, then, hand in hand with him, each took one of their son’s hands—who stood there like a wooden statue—and began dragging him toward the exit.
Just as Liu Qingqing tried to stop them, she met the piercing gazes of both Zhang’s mother and father.
Zhang’s mother added coldly, “If I were you, at this very moment I wouldn’t be trying so hard to hold onto my Yang Yang. Because you’ve already lost him, and we’re not going to stand by and watch you try to keep him. Instead, we’ll do everything we can to figure out how to unravel today’s scheme, how to expose the archenemy behind it, and how to break this whole situation.”
Zhang’s father chimed in, “And if you insist on clinging to my Yang Yang, we old folks aren’t pushovers either. Even if it means risking our lives, we’ll fight you to the bitter end! So we strongly advise you to come to your senses. After all, all we old couples want is for our son to be safe and sound. Unlike the mastermind behind all this—who, at best, just wants to get something back from you and your family, and at worst… well, it’s probably something far more serious…”
Zhang’s father didn’t finish the rest.
But he figured Liu Qingqing should know.
Soon, Liu Qingqing, her face now as dark as coal, seemed to understand what he meant. She stopped trying to block their path, stepping aside to make way, and watched helplessly as Zhang’s parents led her new husband right out from under her nose.
And she was powerless.
After all, just as Zhang’s father and mother had said, if she tried to intervene, she wouldn’t only face the current predicament—she’d also have to contend with two relentless enemies: Zhang’s father and mother.
Zhang’s father and mother quietly slipped away through the back, without alerting anyone in the ceremony hall ahead.
Liu Qingqing didn’t linger either.
She didn’t head toward the front, nor did she want to draw attention to herself. Instead, she took two steps back, pulled out her phone, and quietly called her mother.
The call was answered almost immediately.
