Chapter 28: They’re All Your Favorites

Wait a minute? Knocking on the door?

In the Ming household, would anyone actually knock on her door?

Ming Yue snapped awake in an instant, rubbing her still-swollen, red eyes until she once again looked like the familiar figure who ruled the Ming family from top to bottom. She asked coldly from behind the door, “Which clueless fool is it? What, itching to scratch something so early in the morning?”

“Sister Ming, it’s been years—how did your temper get so bad? It’s Yan Yun! Are you up yet? I’ve got something for you.”

The voice belonged to a young boy.

Although Ming Yue wasn’t exactly close with him, she certainly couldn’t call him a stranger either.

It was Gu Yanyun.

That little brat who used to always trail after Gu Yanxing, Fu Qiancheng, and Jiang Feng—Gu Yanyun. After several years apart, that little kid had grown into a tall, strapping young man.

Ming Yue had seen him outside the hospital yesterday.

But she’d never really had much interaction with him. So why on earth was Gu Yanyun here at this particular moment? And what could he possibly have for her?

Whose idea was this?

Gu Yanxing’s?

Or Fu Qiancheng’s?

It certainly couldn’t be that sneaky, shadowy Jiang Feng.

Ming Yue furrowed her brow slightly, puzzled, but still replied, “What’s your problem? What business is it of yours whether I’m hot-tempered or not?”

Gu Yanyun: …

What’s going on?

He was completely baffled.

How could this voice—and this tone—be so different from the gentle Sister Ming of old?

Oh well, oh well.

Brother said people change, after all.

He’d been sent to deliver something, so getting the job done was the most important thing. There was no point dwelling on other details; all he could do was force a sheepish smile. “Of course it’s none of my business. But since you’re awake now, why don’t you just open the door? I really am here to deliver something—delicious food, I promise. Come take a look and you’ll see for yourself.”

“Wait a minute.”

Ming Yue didn’t make things difficult for Gu Yanyun.

For one thing, she actually quite liked the kid—naive, lively, sweetly innocent, and always calling her “Sister” no matter when they met.

For another, the boy was about the same age as her younger brother, and their relationship wasn’t exactly close; sometimes they’d even play together.

She quickly got up, dressed herself, smoothed down her tousled hair, slipped on her slippers, and went to open the door—only to find a tall, slender young man standing there.

The boy towered over her by more than half a head, grinning broadly at her as he carefully handed her a thermal bag. “Brother Qiancheng said your kitchen’s broken and worried you might go hungry again, so he bought these and told me to bring them over. Sister Ming, you can’t throw them away, okay? I came all the way just to deliver them.”

“I know.”

Ming Yue took the package and gave a faint smile.

“Sister Ming, Brother Qiancheng really put a lot of thought into this—everything here is exactly what you like,” Gu Yanyun said, pointing to the straps on the bag in her hands.

Seeing that Ming Yue remained silent, Gu Yanyun couldn’t help but speak up for Fu Qiancheng: “Sister Ming, Brother Qiancheng has been looking for you all these years—he’s never had another woman. Even when Uncle Fu and Aunt Shen forced him to go on blind dates, he never showed up. He’s always focused on his work, and then he’s just been searching for you—searching all over the world!”

“Did Fu Qiancheng teach you to say that?”

Ming Yue leaned against the doorframe and shot Gu Yanyun a cold glance.

Gu Yanyun hastily waved his hands. “No, no! Sister Ming, please don’t misunderstand—I didn’t learn it from Brother Qiancheng. He didn’t tell me to say any of this; he only asked me to deliver the items to you personally. What I just said was something I wanted to tell you on my own—it has nothing to do with Brother Qiancheng.”

“Alright, I get it. You can go now.”

Ming Yue spoke lazily, without a single unnecessary word.

Gu Yanyun’s lips twitched in embarrassment. The old Sister Ming wasn’t like this at all—why had she become so… so cold now?

It made people uncomfortable.

Yet somehow, inexplicably, it also tugged at their heartstrings.
