Chapter 39: Running Into Each Other

Chapter 39: Running Into Each Other

“Ming Yue, wake up!”

Fu Qiancheng had seen this kind of Ming Yue before—many times. Back then, when the accident happened and they rushed over upon hearing the news, Ming Yue was exactly like this.

That day, she collapsed on the ground, her whole body limp and trembling uncontrollably. Her eyes were already dry from crying, yet she still couldn’t stop sobbing.

In the end, she cried herself unconscious, and it took two days of intravenous drips at the Hospital before she finally came to.

Seeing this scene again, Fu Qiancheng’s heart was already in his throat.

Leaning on her frail frame, he did his best to support her, softly calling her name over and over by her ear until he finally roused her from her nightmare.

Li Ci didn’t know what to say for a moment and could only stand quietly by.

When Ming Yue finally calmed down in Fu Qiancheng’s arms, Li Ci poured her a cup of warm water and gently placed it in front of her, asking, “Are you all right?”

Her voice, however, was quite unlike Li Zhe’s.

Li Zhe’s voice was as melodious as a golden oriole. Listening to Li Zhe speak felt like hearing birds singing in the woods on a spring day.

Li Ci’s voice, by contrast, was slightly hoarse. She sat upright in front of Ming Yue and handed her two tissues.

Ming Yue murmured, “I’m not dead,” then sat up straight and got straight to the point: “Why did your Li family suddenly disappear all those years ago?”

“To be honest, I don’t know the specific reason either. All I know is that one day, Zhezhe suddenly put us in a car without telling us where we were going, nor letting us mention it to anyone—not even our relatives and friends. We gave up our house and just left, as if… as if we were hiding from something,” Li Ci replied softly.

Ming Yue frowned and asked, “Where is Li Zhe now?”

Li Ci shook her head. “I don’t know. We’ve been looking for her too. That day, after rushing us out, she disappeared. Six whole years! Six years! No news whatsoever—no living person, no corpse.”

“What about her Fiance? What’s his name… Jiang… what was it again?”

Li Ci’s face flushed slightly, and she lowered her head, a bit embarrassed. “You mean Jiang Ye? He… he married me. Right now he’s with my parents, and… well, that’s also where Zhezhe hid us.”

Ming Yue’s little hand clenched into a fist. “On what day did Li Zhe send you all away?”

“August 6th.”

“Are you sure?” Ming Yue raised an eyebrow, looking at the woman across from her who looked so much like Li Zhe, her clenched fist tightening even more, a dull ache in her chest.

August 6th!

August 6th!

The day after her brother’s accident!

The very next day!

Li Ci nodded. “It’s definitely August 6th. Zhezhe’s birthday is August 5th. We’d actually planned to celebrate her birthday that day, and my parents even said they’d arrange her wedding with Jiang Ye. But when mealtime came, she still hadn’t shown up. And when she finally returned, she hurriedly sent our whole family away.”

“She didn’t come home that night?”

“No.”

“Was there anything unusual about her?”

“Well…” Li Ci sighed. “If you want to call it ‘unusual,’ maybe there was. But you know, your parents have always had a bad impression of our family and kept trying to keep her and your brother apart. Meanwhile, my parents thought that if they kept pushing, it wouldn’t be good for Zhezhe, so they joined in the opposition too. As a result, Zhezhe wasn’t doing well during that period—she was always gloomy and preoccupied. So we never really noticed anything out of the ordinary.”

Recalling those days, Li Ci added, “But later, when I thought carefully, I realized that when Zhezhe came home that day, her complexion was very off—so pale, as if all her blood had been drained. There were traces of blood on the hem of her clothes, and slight scrapes on her face and arms. She said she’d accidentally fallen, so we didn’t think much of it.”

After such a huge incident, all she had were injuries on her face and arms?

Hmph!

Ming Yue’s heart ached once again, reminded of her brother’s tragic fate. Her eyes grew cold and dark as she asked Li Ci, “Besides that, were there any other abnormalities?”
