Chapter 57: You Still Love Him
Ming Yue curled her lips slightly but said nothing.
Shen Luochen went on, “But as a woman, I don’t mind Qiancheng being with you.
I know my son—ordinary women can’t catch his eye, and he’d never truly like one.
So you must have your own strengths, even if I’ll never notice them or they can’t be hidden.”
Ming Yue slowly turned around. “You’ve told me all this just to get me to tell you where Fu Qiancheng might be now, right?”
Shen Luochen’s eyes lit up, and he quickly nodded. “Qiancheng slipped out of the hospital after having his IV removed. His health has been poor all these years; the worst time he nearly lost his life.
Ming Yue, even if I’m begging you, please try to understand a mother’s heart! If you know where he is, will you tell me?”
Tears welled up in the corners of her eyes—she didn’t seem to be faking it.
Ming Yue sighed softly and shook her head. “Auntie Shen, please try to understand me too—I really don’t know where Fu Qiancheng is. But he does have an apartment in the southern suburbs.”
She paused for a moment, then said to Shen Luochen, “That place was the wedding home he bought for us back then. He likes to go there when he’s happy or upset. You might want to try your luck there, but I can’t guarantee he’ll be there.”
“What’s the address?”
“I’ll send it to you—including the gate code.”
“Okay.”
Shen Luochen’s eyes sparkled, and he already pulled out his phone.
Ming Yue sent him a text with the detailed address and gate code for that apartment, then said no more before turning and walking back into the house.
Shen Luochen sped off as well.
At that moment, Sun Hongyue, standing outside the courtyard, and Liu Jia, crouching inside, both caught onto two key points almost at the same time: the wedding home and the gate code.
An hour later, Ming Yue, lying in bed watching a TV series, received a call from Shen Luochen.
She didn’t even need to ask to guess what the result would be.
Sure enough, as soon as she answered, before she could say a word, Shen Luochen on the other end anxiously said:
“Ming Yue, Qiancheng has been here! There are traces of his life here. But he’s not here. Think again—where else could he be?”
“I really don’t know,” Ming Yue said, furrowing her brow.
Shen Luochen refused to believe it—or rather, he didn’t want to believe it—and his voice softened.
“Ming Yue, I’m begging you—please think carefully again! His health is really bad right now. Please, just think hard one more time, okay?”
“Auntie Shen, I’m really sorry, but I don’t know. If you can’t trust me, just call the police.”
Ming Yue stopped arguing, hung up on Shen Luochen, lay back on the big bed, and slowly closed her eyes—but her mind was still in chaos.
She had no idea that Fu Qiancheng had slipped out of the hospital on his own.
Nor did she expect that he would run away before fully recovering.
Thinking about Fu Qiancheng’s frail body, which could collapse at any moment, Ming Yue couldn’t bear the thought of leaving that missing man unaccounted for, so she called him.
But no one answered.
After hesitating for a long time, Ming Yue finally dialed another number.
It took a long while before a deep male voice came through: “What, finally remembered I exist? Or do you want to confirm whether I’m dead yet?”
It was Jiang Feng.
Ming Yue immediately frowned and snapped, “Can you speak properly?”
The man on the other end remained cold. “How am I supposed to speak properly? Ming Yue, as a partner, haven’t I done enough already?”
“That day…” Ming Yue paused briefly, wanting to apologize for what happened that day, but she just couldn’t bring herself to say it.
The other side, however, had no interest in listening.
Before Ming Yue could continue, he cut her off: “Let’s stop here. I don’t want to know, and I certainly don’t want to hear you talk. If you’ve got something to say, say it; if not, get lost.”
Ming Yue: …
She no longer had the courage to explain anything, let alone ask the man anything.
In the end, she said nothing more and simply hung up.
