Chapter 75: Counterattack 1

While the entire Liu family was huddled together, plotting how to deal with the formidable Ming Yue, she was fast asleep. She slept soundly until evening before slowly getting up and dressing. Just as she was about to head downstairs, Fu Qiancheng called. With a slight raise of her brows, she answered the call. Before she could even speak, a weak voice came through the line: “Where are you?” “In the wolf’s den,” Ming Yue replied. The unnamed male operative on the other end immediately tensed. “The Liu household?” “Yes.” “Move out.” “No.” “Yueyue!” “Alright, if that’s all you wanted to say, then hang up. Even if you think you’re right, I’m not going to listen to you anyway.” Ming Yue had no patience left and was about to hang up when the other end hurriedly said, “Don’t hang up.” Ming Yue froze mid-motion. Seeing that she was still on the line, he clearly breathed a sigh of relief and said softly, “I’ve already heard about yesterday from Yan Xing and Jiang Feng.” Ming Yue remained silent, waiting for more. He continued, “It was the Liu family who did it. I can’t swallow this insult—I’m ready to take action against them now, but…” He didn’t dare act on his own, so he’d called after all. Ming Yue let out a soft sigh and pressed her forehead. “I know exactly what’s going on. Stay out of it and just recover in the hospital. Don’t go running around causing trouble.” “Yes, sir!” The other end sounded like a child—or perhaps an obedient little pawn—answering very earnestly. Ming Yue pursed her lips but ultimately didn’t respond with the cold indifference she used to show. After briefly asking about his injuries and giving him a couple of reminders to take care of himself, Ming Yue finally hung up. When she went downstairs, only Old Lady Ma Fengying and Housekeeper Zhao were home. Ming Yue hummed a tune as she approached the old lady, who still wore a look of disgust whenever she saw her. Without waiting for the old lady to invite her, Ming Yue sat down beside her. “So? How have you been feeling these past two days?” She was asking about the old lady’s impression of the Liu family. The old lady kept a stern face and ignored her. It was only because they couldn’t kick her out that she was still there; otherwise, she’d have been shown the door long ago. Ming Yue snorted. “Fine, if you’re so stubborn and don’t want to talk to me, then fine. But don’t say I didn’t warn you: that whole bunch of vampire-like Liu family members—you’re so indecisive, and sooner or later your precious grandson will be the one to suffer.” She stood up casually and patted Ma Fengying on the shoulder. “You need to understand: Liu Lai isn’t like my father. He doesn’t have my father’s intelligence or decisiveness, but he does carry the Liu bloodline and shares the same emotional ties as the Liu family. So when my father finally kicks the bucket, do you really think this huge estate will belong to the Liu clan or the Ming clan?” Ma Fengying’s expression grew increasingly grim. Yet she couldn’t deny that Ming Yue, this harbinger of misfortune, had a point. She’d seen enough of the Liu family’s bad habits. But as for the Ming Yue standing before her… Ma Fengying shot her another disgusted glance. “The Liu family isn’t any good—so what makes you, a harbinger of misfortune, think you can possibly have any good intentions? Stop trying to stir up trouble in front of me! I’m not stupid enough to believe your nonsense!” “Suit yourself,” Ming Yue shrugged and turned to leave. Pulling a stake out of the ground is never something that can be done overnight. It takes finesse—and even more patience. She curled her lips slightly, went into the kitchen to grab some food, ate her fill, and then headed toward the door, humming a tune. Just as she was about to step outside, she suddenly turned back to the old lady, who was staring blankly at the sofa, and asked, “By the way, Grandma, did you know that the villa the Liu family lives in here was bought entirely by my father alone?” “What did you say?” Ma Fengying snapped her head up. But Ming Yue refused to elaborate further. She curled her lips into a teasing smile, loosened her muscles, and strolled out the door at a leisurely pace.
