Chapter 80: Counterattack 6

She suddenly halted all movement, flipped the unnamed male operative over, and stared at the conspicuous new scar on his back. Her delicate eyebrows instantly knit together as she pressed gently on the wound, saying, “What is this…?”

The unnamed male operative immediately frowned.

Ming Yue also frowned, her voice drawn out, yet she still voiced the question in her heart: “What happened?”

“What do you mean?”

Jiang Feng pretended not to understand, chuckling softly as he pulled her back into his embrace, refusing to let her see the scar on his back.

Ming Yue let out a cold huff and reached straight for the injury on his back. Without any warning, she suddenly applied firm pressure, deliberately pressing down hard, before resuming their earlier conversation and asking the feigning-ignorant man, “What did you say?”

Jiang Feng winced in pain, nearly letting out a curse, but managed to hold it in.

After all, it was her!

If it had been anyone else, he’d have wrung their neck first before even opening his mouth!

Jiang Feng gritted his teeth and endured the pain, finally managing to reply nonchalantly, “It’s nothing. I accidentally bumped into something last night when I got up to go to the bathroom. It’s fine—just apply some medicine later.”

“If you don’t want to talk about it, keep it to yourself. The worse it rots, the better—I don’t care. I was just asking casually,” Ming Yue said, pulling back the blanket and getting up, too lazy to waste another word on him.

But before she could even stand fully, Jiang Feng grabbed her and pulled her back, saying, “I’m not trying to fool you—it’s…”

Jiang Feng paused, then continued, “There are some things that aren’t ready to be told yet. Don’t be mad at me. But rest assured, they’re neither meant to hurt you nor to scheme against you.”

“Oh, look at you—talk as if I really cared. As for your own business, if you want to tell me, great; if not, forget it. Why should I be mad at you? What am I, anyway? Just a mere medicine catalyst!”

Ming Yue stopped moving, simply nestled in the man’s arms with her back turned to him.

Jiang Feng didn’t want to dwell on the matter any further—just as he’d said earlier, the time wasn’t right yet. When the time came, he would naturally reveal everything.

In short, he wasn’t plotting against her or trying to harm her.

Hearing her sarcastic words, the faint sense of unease lurking in his heart seemed to ease a bit.

He turned her around so she faced him, his large hand gently caressing her small face, and said, “That’s not true.”

“Not true about what?”

Ming Yue asked casually, not wanting to dig deeper or caring much.

She yawned, leaned back, closed her eyes, and prepared to take a quick nap.

After all, this wasn’t the Ming Family Home.

Although she didn’t feel much affection for the man beside her, there were certain things she trusted him with—and she knew full well that no one here was constantly plotting to take her life.

So she figured she might as well enjoy this rare, peaceful sleep here.

Jiang Feng, too, let go of his anxious thoughts. He quietly held her close, lying motionless as they both drifted off to sleep together, without saying the rest of what he’d been meaning to convey.

Of course, he wasn’t sleepy at all—he just wanted to stay by her side like this.

For a moment, it felt as though this were the best time in the world.

Compared with love and hatred, grudges and grievances, nothing seemed more precious than these tranquil, harmonious days.

For a fleeting instant, the conviction he’d held onto for years quietly began to waver. His hand rested lightly on her waist, his eyes locked on her little face, and an irresistible urge welled up inside him:

Ming Yue, if one day I’m willing to give up everything, to let go of all those grudges and grievances, and wait for you until our story is settled, would you be willing to be with me?
