Chapter 88: Counterattack 14

After many years apart, this group of people had finally reunited. Overjoyed, they stayed out late, so none of them went home—each chose a room and settled in for the night.

The others were fine; they closed their doors early and went to sleep.

But Ming Yue’s room was anything but quiet.

No sooner had she shut the door behind her than a familiar presence slipped up behind her—Jiang Feng had somehow sneaked in and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. “Can I sleep here tonight?” he asked.

“Absolutely not.”

Ming Yue shot back firmly, and the man instantly spun her around.

“Why not?”

Jiang Feng’s voice dropped low and husky, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he struggled to keep himself under control. He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss against her lips.

Ming Yue pushed him away, her hands resting on his chest. “There’s no ‘why.’ Where did you come from? Get out of here now!”

“Ming…”

Before Jiang Feng could finish his sentence, the door was suddenly knocked on, followed by Fu Qiancheng’s voice: “Yueyue, are you asleep yet?”

The commotion in the room came to an abrupt halt.

Jiang Feng gritted his teeth but didn’t make a sound; he just instinctively pulled Ming Yue closer, his gaze fixed on the tightly shut door.

Ming Yue frowned slightly and replied, “I was just about to go to bed. What is it?”

“I brought you something. Could you open the door for me?”

“No need. You should go back and get some rest.”

“Yueyue…”

“Hm?”

“Just now… inside the room…”

It sounded like he was holding back something important.

Of course, Ming Yue caught on. She shot the unnamed male operative a quick look, and he rolled his eyes before reluctantly letting go and stepping back into the room.

Ming Yue smoothed her clothes, waiting until Jiang Feng was completely out of sight before calmly opening the door. She blinked, looking puzzled at the man standing in front of her door, clutching a huge pile of stuff. “What was going on in there just now?”

“Nothing. Nothing at all.”

He smiled, dropping the subject, and waved the stack of items in his hands. “I got you some things—toiletries, pajamas, and snacks. Want me to put them in?”

“Thanks.”

Ming Yue didn’t refuse. She shifted slightly to the side, making way for Fu Qiancheng to enter. Of course, she felt a bit uneasy. After all, there was still that troublemaker in the room.

Strangely enough, just when she thought the man might slip up, the room turned out to be completely empty—nothing at all. He was like a ghost: appearing out of nowhere and disappearing without a trace.

Ming Yue raised an eyebrow but said nothing. She watched as Fu Qiancheng set down the items, then personally escorted him to the door. As Fu Qiancheng reached for the doorknob, Ming Yue didn’t hesitate to step forward and close the door herself.

However…

Before the door had even fully shut, an arm suddenly wrapped around her waist. Before Ming Yue could react, the arm suddenly tightened, pulling her forward.

In the next instant, Fu Qiancheng had her in his embrace.

Her little hand clenched into a fist, but she didn’t actually strike the frail man who looked like he’d be blown over by a single gust of wind. Instead, she sternly ordered, “Fu Qiancheng, let go!”

Fu Qiancheng didn’t respond, nor did he release his grip.

After a brief hesitation, his cool, thin lips suddenly pressed against Ming Yue’s forehead, lingering there for what felt like an eternity. “I’ve thought about letting go, too. But Yueyue… I just can’t! I really can’t!”

Ming Yue’s palm was already poised, ready to strike, but in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to swing it. She pushed the man away, refusing to engage with his words and keeping a safe distance. “If you do this again, don’t blame me if I hit you!”

“Yueyue…”

“Alright, it’s getting late. Go back to bed!”

Ming Yue snapped, ignoring whatever expression the man wore, and slammed the door shut.
