Chapter 3: Every Word Gets a Response, Yet You Still Don’t Like It

Holding her suitcase, Su Qingyue looked up at the dazzling, opulent skyscrapers before her. The gilded glass curtain walls soared straight into the sky, exuding grandeur and extravagance.

After staring for a while, she felt a bitter mix of irony and emotions welling up inside.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside. The receptionist greeted her with a smile:

“Hello, miss. Welcome to Yunheng Group. How may I assist you?”

“I’d like to see Ms. Liu Yingxue.”

The receptionist’s polite smile faltered for a moment, as her eyes carefully scanned Su Qingyue’s face:

“Are you Miss Su Qingyue?”

She nodded. The receptionist’s smile widened.

“President Liu has already instructed us that if you come, you should go straight to her office on the top floor.”

“Alright, thank you.”

She pulled her suitcase behind the receptionist, waiting for her to swipe the card that opened the direct elevator to the top floor.

When they reached the top, a sharp and composed secretary in a suit was waiting by the elevator door.

As soon as she stepped out, he respectfully approached her.

“Miss Su, hello. I’m President Liu’s special assistant. Please follow me.”

She nodded politely without saying a word.

They arrived at an imposing door, and the assistant knocked twice.

“President Liu, Miss Su is here.”

Soon, her mother’s voice came from inside.

“Come in.”

The assistant opened one side of the door and gestured for her to enter. Once she was inside, he carefully closed the door behind her.

Su Qingyue nonchalantly surveyed the sprawling, showroom-like executive office on the top floor, lavishly furnished.

She couldn’t help but mock herself—her mother really didn’t want to experience even a single day of hardship.

Liu Yingxue was buried in a pile of documents. Hearing the noise, she raised her head. Her makeup was exquisite, her presence calm yet sharp—a true powerhouse:

“So you’ve finally come back? Four years, and not once have you returned to see your mother. Do you have a heart of iron?”

“Round-trip airfare is expensive; there’s no need to waste that money.”

She said casually, walking over to the huge leather sofa and sitting down.

“The money I sent you hasn’t been spent a penny less, yet you can’t even afford the airfare? Are you doing well over there?”

Leaning back against the sofa, Su Qingyue spoke in a laid-back tone:

“Pretty good, I guess. After all, with your money keeping me afloat, how bad could it be?”

Liu Yingxue frowned, her chest rising and falling slightly—clearly taken aback by her daughter’s words. But seeing her daughter’s beautiful, refined features, she managed to suppress her anger and asked again:

“Have you gotten a boyfriend yet?”

Su Qingyue’s clear black-and-white eyes blinked, and she gave a sardonic smile:

“Not yet. I’m just waiting for you, Mom, to arrange a golden son-in-law for me, so I can skip decades of detours.”

Seeing her daughter’s pointed, sarcastic remarks, Liu Yingxue took a deep breath and let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose.

“You’ve been abroad for four years, and all you’ve learned is how to come home and speak to your mother with cold sarcasm and snide remarks?”
