Chapter 109: The View from the Thirty-Eighth Floor
Chapter 109: The View from the Thirty-Eighth Floor
“Are you daydreaming?” Ling Hanyu was both exasperated and amused. This woman—had he kissed her so senseless that she’d gone all mushy?
“You’re the one daydreaming.”
Song Qingtian pulled away from Ling Hanyu and slapped her flushed cheeks.
“I’m fine. Mr. Ling, go on in.”
Ling Hanyu chuckled at her indignation, then leaned down and whispered in Song Qingtian’s ear, “If you’re not coming in with me, are you planning to stay here to catch the breeze, or are you trying to threaten me into giving it to you tonight?”
Song Qingtian gave Ling Hanyu a little push. “You…”
Ling Hanyu was pushed away, even though he’d been holding her close; he just looked at her with a teasing smile.
“You’ve got quite a temper.”
With that, he led Song Qingtian into the Company.
Song Qingtian was wrapped in his arms, making it hard for her to break free. But when she saw all the people around them staring, she suddenly felt embarrassed and had no choice but to follow him inside.
Even though she didn’t want to, Song Qingtian still had a plan. Since she was already here, she might as well make the best of it—learning how to do business could only be a good thing.
She figured the more she learned, the better—after all, knowledge is always useful.
Once inside the Company, Ling Hanyu kept his arm around Song Qingtian, but she quickly slipped his hand off her waist.
“I can manage on my own. Mr. Ling, don’t worry about me. If there’s anything, I’ll let you know.”
The biggest change in Song Qingtian lately was her newfound politeness.
In the past, Ling Hanyu hated it when Song Qingtian clung to him like a piece of adhesive bandage, never letting go. But recently, she’d been avoiding him whenever possible—clearly, she couldn’t stand it anymore.
He looked at her and said, “Don’t wander around too much; it’s not good for the baby.”
“I know,” Song Qingtian replied. She didn’t want to suffer either, so she dressed in loose, simple clothes and wore flat shoes.
Ling Hanyu glanced downstairs and took Song Qingtian’s hand. “Let’s go.”
Song Qingtian followed him to the elevator, where they were escorted out under everyone’s watchful eyes.
Once inside the elevator, Song Qingtian began struggling to pull her hand free. She didn’t want anyone to see her being tugged and pulled by Ling Hanyu.
Ling Hanyu kept his hands behind his back, radiating an air of arrogance and cold detachment, while her hand remained trapped in his grasp. It felt as if her hand were nothing more than a toy for him, something he could manipulate at will.
Song Qingtian felt completely uncomfortable, yet she couldn’t pull her hand free.
When the elevator doors opened, Secretary Yang was already waiting outside. Seeing Song Qingtian, he paused for a moment before offering a polite greeting.
Ling Hanyu led Song Qingtian straight into his office and walked right in. As soon as they entered, he released her.
Looking at her hand, Song Qingtian moved to the farthest corner of the sofa, making sure not to disturb Ling Hanyu and Secretary Yang.
Ling Hanyu sat down, casting a deep glance toward Song Qingtian on the sofa before getting to work.
Secretary Yang noticed right away that General Manager Ling wasn’t focused—he kept glancing over toward the sofa. “I really don’t know what’s so interesting about her,” he thought. “Back when Song Haichao was around, he had to put up with it. But now… if he wanted to get rid of Song Qingtian and just pay her off, it wouldn’t be that hard.”
After a while, Song Qingtian grew tired of scrolling through her phone and stood up to go to the floor-to-ceiling window to take in the view.
The view from the thirty-eighth floor truly was extraordinary. All around, the world seemed pristine and spotless, filled with beauty. This, she realized, must be what height feels like.
At that moment, Ling Hanyu was in a meeting—he hadn’t left the office; he was holding a remote conference, with Secretary Yang keeping him company in the room. But ever since Song Qingtian stood up, Ling Hanyu’s eyes had been fixed on her.
As soon as she went to the floor-to-ceiling window, his gaze followed her there.
Everyone was waiting for Ling Hanyu, wondering why he’d suddenly fallen silent. But Secretary Yang knew exactly what was going on: the boss was staring at a woman.
After standing there for a while, Song Qingtian didn’t hear Ling Hanyu speaking behind her, so she turned around. When she saw him looking at her, she gave herself a quick once-over before turning her attention to Secretary Yang, who was now looking down.
Ling Hanyu finally looked at his computer and announced, “Meeting adjourned.”
He closed the call and turned to Secretary Yang. “That’s it. You may leave now.”
“Yes, sir.”
Secretary Yang departed, and Ling Hanyu rose to his feet. He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window and gazed out.
“What are you looking at?” he asked.
“Just taking a look.”
Not even that?
Song Qingtian worried that maybe she’d interrupted his meeting, but she hadn’t done anything wrong, had she?
