Chapter 15: Why Do They Look So Much Alike?
The combination of a handsome man, a beautiful woman, and an adorable little kid instantly became a striking sight at the airport, drawing frequent glances and compliments from passersby.
“Hey, is that some big celebrity? What an elegant family of three…”
“I don’t know, I’ve never seen them before, but that handsome guy does look somewhat familiar.”
“How lucky that girl is—having such a handsome husband and such a cute baby! She must have saved the galaxy in a past life!”
Song Qingtian rolled her eyes in exasperation.
Saved the galaxy?
Please. No matter how good your luck is, it can’t compete with the heroine’s overwhelming aura.
Song Qingtian tilted her head to glance at Ling Hanyu, then curled her lip. “Other than his face, there’s really nothing about this man to be proud of.”
He has such a bad temper—it’s just not her type.
Song Qingtian hadn’t wanted to come at all, but last night this dog of a man tore up their divorce agreement while she was asleep!
He even threatened her: if she didn’t pretend to be deeply in love with him to fool his parents into feeling at ease, she’d never get a divorce in her lifetime!
Song Qingtian felt like a lump of old blood had lodged in her throat—she couldn’t swallow it or spit it out.
Reluctantly, she had no choice but to agree. When you’re under someone else’s roof, you have to bow your head.
So what if they’re just pretending to be affectionate?
Piece of cake! The young lady hasn’t read countless romance novels for nothing.
Fortunately, the hero’s parents aren’t the kind of extravagant rich folks who would write a check to make her leave their son.
In the story, the hero’s parents have always been very supportive of Ling Hanyu and Song Qingtian being together, and they’ve also treated the original protagonist extremely well.
It was only with the tacit approval and help of the hero’s parents that the original protagonist was able to successfully conceive and marry the hero.
Thinking of this, Song Qingtian wanted to meet these in-laws even more.
“Grandpa, Grandma! We’re right here!” Nuonuo suddenly called out happily.
Song Qingtian looked up and saw a middle-aged man in a Zhongshan suit walking gracefully arm-in-arm with a lady in a cheongsam.
Ling Qingyun strode over, snatched the little dumpling from Ling Hanyu’s hands, and planted a big kiss on his granddaughter’s forehead.
“Ah, my good little grandchild! Have you missed Grandpa?”
“Grandpa, Nuonuo misses you so much!”
“What about Grandma?”
“Nuonuo misses Grandma too.”
As the two approached, Ling Hanyu let go of Song Qingtian and said coolly, “Dad, Mom.”
Seeing Song Qingtian standing there in a daze, he snapped, “What’s wrong? Can’t you even say ‘hello’ to people anymore?”
“You naughty boy, why are you being so rude? You scared Sweetie!”
Liu Shuping quickly scolded her son, then pulled Song Qingtian aside. “Sweetie, ignore this naughty boy. Your dad and I brought you a gift—wait until we get home and you’ll love it.”
Song Qingtian mumbled a couple of vague affirmations, completely failing to catch what Liu Shuping was saying.
All she wanted to know now was: why does the hero’s father look exactly like her late father from her previous life?
Song Qingtian stared at the person in front of her—the familiar face—and felt a lump in her throat. For a moment, her expression grew hazy, and she could hardly tell whether she was dreaming or awake.
In her previous life, after her mother passed away when she was very young, her father never remarried. He single-handedly raised her through thick and thin.
Their family wasn’t wealthy, but they were still a moderately well-off household.
Her father was handsome and intelligent, and many people urged him to remarry, but he always refused.
He said he loved only her mother.
He was afraid other women wouldn’t treat him well.
She had just graduated from college two years ago—no career, no boyfriend, stuck somewhere in between.
He never said anything about it, just smiled and said he could support her for the rest of her life.
But now she suddenly found herself in this strange place, surrounded by unfamiliar people and situations.
She wondered whether her father had noticed that his daughter was missing and whether he was terribly worried.
At midnight, when she woke up from her dreams, she felt so scared and lonely. She wished it were all just a dream, and that when she woke up, she’d be lying in her own bed.
Her father would knock on her door every morning and call her to eat breakfast.
But every time she woke up, she was disappointed.
Would she ever see her father again…?
Just thinking about it made Song Qingtian unable to hold back her tears any longer. Tears streamed down her face like a waterfall, and she burst into sobs.
“Oh dear, Sweetie, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” Her mother hurried over to ask.
“N-nothing… it’s okay…” Song Qingtian choked as she reached up to wipe her tears, but the resentment building up inside her was simply too much. Faced with this sudden concern, her emotions finally spiraled out of control, and the tears poured forth.
Seeing this, Ling Qingyun glared angrily at Ling Hanyu. “Did you bully her again, you rascal?”
“I didn’t,” Ling Hanyu retorted irritably.
“You didn’t? And yet Sweetie’s crying like this?” Ling Qingyun couldn’t help but shout.
They’d watched this girl grow up; she used to be quite well-behaved and sensible. But once she got involved with this rascal from their family, she sank to the lowest depths.
Although she had done plenty of foolish things, they knew she wasn’t inherently bad.
She was far better than that pretentious Song Yinyin.
Ling Hanyu glared coldly at Song Qingtian and nervously tugged at his tie.
This woman really was as annoying as ever—can’t she ever stop playing the same old tricks?
“Dad, Mom, I’ve got some business at the company, so I’m heading out now. I’ll have the driver take you home.”
“Hey!” Ling Qingyun was about to say something, but his wife grabbed him and gave him a warning look, signaling him to think about where they were.
Only then did Ling Qingyun remember that they were at the airport—he certainly didn’t want to end up on tomorrow’s news headlines.
“I’ll settle accounts with you when we get home tonight!”
