Chapter 14: The Cute Little Angel

Chapter 14: The Cute Little Angel

Song Qingtian couldn’t help but swallow hard as she watched the man steadily walk toward her. After all, everyone has a love for beauty. And besides, the man before her was the ultimate, top-tier boss with the “protagonist aura”—broad shoulders and a narrow waist, chiseled abs, a golden ratio physique, and an icy, aloof demeanor. Unfortunately, such a male lead belonged to the female lead. Thinking about the miserable life that awaited her as a mere supporting character, Song Qingtian couldn’t help but shiver. Cherish your life—stay far away from the protagonist.

What worried her most now was sharing a bed with the male lead, pretending they were husband and wife. A lone man and a lone woman in the dead of night—it was quite dangerous.

“Ling Hanyu, can I bring Nuonuo over to sleep with us?” Song Qingtian suddenly asked.

Ling Hanyu looked at the woman before him in confusion, as if he didn’t recognize her at all. After a long while, seeing how earnest Song Qingtian looked, he couldn’t help but ask, “Haven’t you always complained that Nuonuo is too noisy?”

Song Qingtian replied, “...Hehe, really? You must be mistaken—I never said that.”

Suddenly, Nuonuo’s voice came from outside the door.

“Mommy, can Nuonuo sleep with Daddy and Mommy?” Ling Nuonuo asked timidly.

At the doorway stood a tiny, adorable little bundle wrapped in a small blanket, its big, black eyes blinking innocently as it softly pouted and cooed—immediately capturing Song Qingtian’s heart. Goodness, how could there be such a cute little baby!

“Of course you can, sweetheart! Come on over—you’re Mommy’s little angel!”

Song Qingtian scooped up the little bundle and placed it on the bed, then planted a big, smacking kiss on her daughter’s chubby little face. She’d been worrying about how to solve the problem of where to sleep tonight, but who would have thought the little darling would show up on her own? It was as if the two of them were perfectly in sync.

“Sweetheart, you can sleep in the middle—then you’ll be right next to Daddy and Mommy,” Song Qingtian said, generously dividing her bed in half to make room for the child.

Ling Nuonuo reached out her tiny hand to touch the right side of her face that had just been kissed by Song Qingtian, as if she still couldn’t quite believe it. Her expression was dazed, her big, adorable eyes wide open, her long lashes fluttering, her little face rosy and plump—but she wore an utterly incredulous look, which was incredibly cute.

Song Qingtian was completely charmed by this expression. “How can you be so cute, sweetheart? Did you grow up eating ‘Cute-ness Plus’ or something?”

Song Qingtian couldn’t resist planting another big, loving kiss on the adorable little one. But Ling Nuonuo giggled happily—after all, kids say they only let people kiss them if they really like them. It seemed Mommy really liked her.

Ling Nuonuo sweetly kissed Song Qingtian back, saying she loved Mommy very much too, then softly pouted, “Mommy, I want to hear a bedtime story.”

“Of course! What story would you like to hear, sweetheart?” Song Qingtian asked, her heart practically melting from cuteness. Even if the little dumpling just wanted to listen to stories—or even reach for the stars in the sky—she’d do anything to make it happen.

“I’ll listen to whatever Mommy tells me,” Ling Nuonuo said in her sweet, babyish voice, so thoughtful and endearing.

“Then Mommy will tell you the story of ‘The Big Bad Wolf and the Little White Rabbit.’ Once upon a time, there lived a group of little white rabbits in the forest…”

Ling Nuonuo felt that today’s Mommy was so gentle. She had thought about it for a long time before finally summoning the courage to come find her Mommy. The kids at Kindergarten said their moms and dads always told them stories before bed. She’d always been envious of that, and today she finally got to fulfill that wish herself.

“Sweetheart, shall we turn off the lights and go to sleep?” Song Qingtian asked softly.

“Okay…” Ling Nuonuo answered dreamily.

Seeing that the little dumpling had fallen asleep, Song Qingtian gently tucked the blanket around her and closed her own eyes, not once glancing at the man beside her. Ling Hanyu sensed that Song Qingtian seemed different somehow, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. In all their years of marriage, he had never seen her so patient in soothing the child; she’d always complained that the kid was too noisy. Today, though, she suddenly wanted to bring the child along—and he had even thought she was trying some new trick to get his attention. But when she finally fell asleep, there wasn’t the slightest sign of fussiness. Seeing that she no longer bothered him, Ling Hanyu breathed a sigh of relief. If only she could stay this calm and well-behaved in the future…

Still, expecting Song Qingtian to stop being mischievous might be a bit unrealistic.

The next day, Ling Hanyu held his daughter in one arm and wrapped his other arm around his wife as they greeted his parents, who had just returned from a trip abroad, at the airport.
