Chapter 192: Otherwise, She’ll Be the One to Die

Song Qingtian was worried about her daughter and frowned slightly. “I’ll get out of the car—their target is me. You take the girl and leave first.”

Song Qingtian needed to assess the situation rationally; she had to protect her daughter.

Holding the steering wheel, Ling Hanyu glanced at Song Qingtian in the rearview mirror. She was staring out at the people closing in.

“Am I, Ling Hanyu, the kind of man who’d let a woman do the protecting?”

Song Qingtian realized what he meant and turned toward him. “That’s not what I meant. The situation is urgent—if they make too much noise, Nuonuo will wake up. If she gets scared, it could be a lifelong problem.”

The bottom line was her daughter; Song Qingtian just wanted to protect her.

Ling Hanyu laughed in exasperation. “Sit still!”

Song Qingtian instinctively pulled her daughter into her arms, turning slightly to shield her with her body between the seat and herself.

That way, her daughter would be safe—even if a car accident killed someone, it would only be her.

Song Qingtian wasn’t thinking that far ahead; all she cared about was protecting her daughter.

Suddenly, Ling Hanyu floored the gas pedal, the engine roaring as the car shot up into the air.

Song Qingtian was focused on protecting her daughter, so even when the car took off, she wasn’t shocked. All she knew was that she had to protect her daughter.

When the car landed, Ling Hanyu gave Song Qingtian a disdainful look before speeding away.

It took Song Qingtian a long while to realize they were safe now.

As the car sped past, Song Qingtian looked down at her daughter in her arms. The little girl was sleeping soundly—so soft and adorable, her cheeks rosy, her tiny lips moving slightly.

Song Qingtian pressed her face against Ling Nuonuo’s soft cheek. Ling Nuonuo stirred, grabbed at her hand, then went right back to sleep.

Song Qingtian let out a sigh of relief and looked ahead.

Ling Hanyu said irritably, “Not very brave, are you?”

Song Qingtian didn’t answer. Of course she understood what he meant—mocking her for being terrified by the whole ordeal.

Ling Hanyu glanced at Song Qingtian and drove them back.

Song Qingtian stepped out of the car and glanced at her daughter in her arms.

This couldn’t possibly end so easily.

“Is it Chen Jianxiu?”

Song Qingtian asked, holding her daughter close.

Ling Hanyu locked the car, gave Song Qingtian one last look, then headed toward the Villa.

“If it’s Chen Jianxiu, I’m sure he’ll come back again.”

Song Qingtian thought: if someone like Chen Jianxiu doesn’t get what he wants, would he really stop? Clearly not.

Ling Hanyu didn’t respond. In fact, he’d already made his plans.

Even before they’d met Chen Jianxiu at the restaurant, dealing with someone like him usually meant two things: either beating him up until he backed down, or reporting some of his shady dealings and sending him to jail.

Back in the day, when Ling Hanyu was young and hot-headed, Chen Jianxiu wouldn’t have been able to leave this place at all.

But now…

Ling Hanyu stopped, turned around, and looked at Song Qingtian with interest.

She looked absolutely terrified, trembling all over.

“Give her to me.”

He reached out, intending to take the baby.

“Sweaty already—let me hold her.”

Song Qingtian had narrowly escaped death, and she was even less willing to part with her daughter. She wanted to keep holding her forever.

Sidestepping Ling Hanyu, Song Qingtian carried her daughter straight back inside.

Ling Hanyu turned around and glanced at Song Qingtian, then looked toward the Villa Entrance.

Those cars had followed them all the way back—it was clear they weren’t going to let this go so easily.

These ruthless thugs were bound to want more than just a taste.

Ling Hanyu didn’t go inside. Instead, he walked to the front door, stood there with his hands behind his back, his gaze calm and steady as he watched the cars lurking in the darkness outside. After a while, he turned and went back inside.

Song Qingtian had already settled her daughter for bed. Ling Nuonuo didn’t know what had happened, but she slept especially soundly, dreaming of nothing but her adoration for Mommy—even in her sleep, she looked so happy.

Song Qingtian, meanwhile, stood by the window, knowing those people weren’t going to let this slide. But if they didn’t handle it properly, it would be their own loss.

Looking at her phone, Song Qingtian felt conflicted. She didn’t think she was at fault—this had nothing to do with greed.

Chen Jianxiu’s willingness to make such a move clearly showed he didn’t care about money.

If he did care, he wouldn’t have given it so easily.

But since he did give it—and immediately struck back afterward—it proved he never intended to settle peacefully in the first place. That’s why he acted this way.

Song Qingtian thought: we can’t let Chen Jianxiu off the hook so easily. Otherwise, she’ll be the one who ends up dead.
