Chapter 196: He’s Waiting for a Ghost
Chapter 196: He’s Waiting for a Ghost
Bai Ge sat for a while, then asked Song Haichang, “How did you know I was here?”
“Someone called and threatened me, demanding half a million as hush money. I just had my suspicions, but she said to call home and see if you were there.”
Bai Ge’s face turned pale as she looked out at Chen Jianxiu.
Someone must be plotting against them behind the scenes.
But Bai Ge didn’t want to say much about it.
Chen Jianxiu glared at Song Haichang: “If you so much as lay a finger on Bai Ge, I’ll kill you!”
Song Haichang shot back, “She’s my wife.”
“I could take your life anytime—if it weren’t for Bai Ge begging me, you’d be dead already, Song Haichang. Back then, if it hadn’t been for your family’s wealth, Bai Ge would be my wife today.”
Song Haichang bristled, about to retort, but Bai Ge tugged on his arm: “Stop it.”
Only then did Song Haichang fall silent.
Deep down, Song Haichang still wanted Bai Ge by his side; without her, he was nothing.
Chen Jianxiu looked at Bai Ge: “I’ll handle this. Go home and get some rest—money is no problem. If this person wants cash, just pay up. The real danger is that she might not be after money at all.”
Bai Ge understood exactly what Chen Jianxiu meant.
Bai Ge mused, “Could it be… you…?”
“No way—she wouldn’t dare!” Chen Jianxiu had that kind of nerve; he’d never let anything at home trouble Bai Ge.
Even though their children had all built successful careers, anyone who dared disrespect Bai Ge and her daughter would surely regret it.
Chen Jianxiu had long wanted to be with Bai Ge; if it hadn’t been for Song Yinyin’s huge predicament, he wouldn’t have sought her out this time.
He never expected to run into Song Haichang right away.
Bai Ge said, “I’m tired. Let’s head back first. We can talk more when we get home.”
“I’ll drive you,” Chen Jianxiu insisted.
Chen Jianxiu simply couldn’t bear to part with Bai Ge. If they hadn’t been discovered earlier, he might have tolerated it, but now there was no need to.
Of course, Bai Ge refused. Chen Jianxiu yanked open the car door and practically dragged her out.
Song Haichang hurriedly got out, and as Bai Ge was being led away, she kept looking back at him. When Song Haichang tried to chase after her, Bai Ge shook her head silently, signaling him not to make a move.
Song Haichang did feel somewhat vindicated. Even though he couldn’t match Chen Jianxiu in strength, Bai Ge was siding with him, which made him feel better.
When people are weak, they always try to save face for themselves.
Especially men when it comes to women.
Position matters most.
Bai Ge was ushered into the car and turned to Chen Jianxiu: “You shouldn’t have hit him—he’s Yinyin’s father. What am I supposed to do now?”
“I already did!” Chen Jianxiu replied, gripping Bai Ge’s hand.
“I’ll take you home. If he dares lay a finger on you, let me know.”
“He won’t,” Bai Ge assured him.
She was certain Song Haichang wouldn’t dare harm her.
“This must be someone pulling strings behind the scenes. You’d better be careful too,” Bai Ge added, then glanced out the window.
Once they arrived back, Bai Ge stepped out of the car, and Chen Jianxiu followed suit.
Bai Ge looked at him: “You can go now. I’ll contact you if anything comes up.”
Chen Jianxiu shot a glance at Song Haichang: “Let me know if anything happens.”
With that, Chen Jianxiu climbed back into the car.
As Chen Jianxiu drove off, Bai Ge turned to Song Haichang: “Let’s get a divorce!”
Song Haichang was taken aback: “What are you talking about?”
Bai Ge cried, “After I’ve done something like this, do you really expect me to stay married to you?”
“When did I ever say I wanted a divorce? Did he threaten you?”
Song Haichang realized things weren’t quite as he’d imagined.
Bai Ge shook her head: “No, not at all.”
“You’re even helping him!”
“It’s not ‘helping’—it’s because I owe him.”
Bai Ge tried to walk away, but Song Haichang grabbed her: “All the money you’ve spent handling things lately has come from him?”
Bai Ge glanced at Song Haichang: “I borrowed it—I’ll pay him back.”
“Then how will you repay him?”
Song Haichang suddenly understood—and instead of blaming Bai Ge, he hugged her tightly, as if she were the most precious thing in the world.
“You can’t leave me.”
Bai Ge didn’t seem overly worried about being held like this; she just felt that someone was plotting against her, and she wouldn’t tolerate it under any circumstances.
Chen Jianxiu had been keeping an eye on everything as soon as he left—and sure enough, he spotted Song Qingtian on the surveillance footage and smiled!
So it really was her?
At that moment, Song Qingtian had already returned to the villa. She stepped out of the car feeling a bit drowsy and yawned.
As soon as she entered the house, she was about to head straight back—but someone called out to her: “You’re back?”
The tone was cold, heavy, and chillingly austere.
Song Qingtian stopped and turned around to face Ling Hanyu.
In the darkness, Ling Hanyu loomed over her like a grim reaper. Song Qingtian took a deep breath: “Mr. Ling… are you waiting for me?”
“Do you think I’m waiting for a ghost?”
Ling Hanyu stepped forward, closing in step by step, until he stood right in front of Song Qingtian.
Song Qingtian’s breathing grew rapid as she gazed at the figure so close she could almost touch him, her heart pounding.
