Chapter 208: That Regret
Chapter 208: That Regret
Ling Hanyu pulled over, stepped out of the car, leaned casually against it, and looked over at Song Qingtian.
Song Qingtian felt as if she’d been caught in the act.
She really was unlucky—every single time something like this happened, it was always with Ling Hanyu. She just had to admit it: she was hopeless.
Song Qingtian gave an awkward smile and said, “It was them who were following me.”
Ling Hanyu pointed toward the passenger seat and gestured for Song Qingtian to get in.
Song Qingtian walked around the car and sat down. The Old Steward turned to face Ling Hanyu and politely bowed.
Ling Hanyu chuckled lightly and glanced across at Qin Xiaotian.
Then he got back into the car.
As he started the engine, Ling Hanyu drove straight toward the Old Steward. But the Old Steward didn’t seem the least bit surprised—he didn’t even move.
Song Qingtian watched the Old Steward; she figured he wouldn’t be hurt no matter what. Still, she couldn’t believe that Ling Hanyu would actually drive right into him.
But sure enough, just as the car was about to hit him, the Old Steward stood there completely unfazed. Then Ling Hanyu suddenly floored the gas pedal and sped forward.
Just when Song Qingtian was terrified, thinking a life was about to be lost, someone shoved the Old Steward aside and saved him.
But a young man fell to the ground.
Song Qingtian’s face went pale with fright, and she was ready to jump out of the car.
Yet instead, Ling Hanyu’s car backed up and pulled away from the scene.
Song Qingtian turned to look at the young man on the ground—he hadn’t moved at all. It was the Old Steward, though, who took a few steps and stared after Ling Hanyu’s car.
Only when she could no longer see the Old Steward did Song Qingtian turn back.
She glanced at Ling Hanyu, then fell silent.
Ling Hanyu drove around with Song Qingtian, taking her on a little tour.
Throughout the whole ride, Ling Hanyu didn’t say a word, and Song Qingtian’s heart was pounding.
Finally, the car stopped by the seaside, and Ling Hanyu stepped out.
He leaned against the car, hands in his pockets, staring out at the sea.
Song Qingtian got out too and walked over to the front of the car, examining the bumper before reaching out to touch it.
“Cars are different,” she thought. “This one’s fine—it’s okay.”
Ling Hanyu slowly looked over at Song Qingtian and let out a light laugh.
After all, she was the heiress of a major conglomerate. Even if Song Haichao wasn’t a billionaire tycoon, a car like this was nothing to her.
The old Song Qingtian, who used to gamble recklessly, was quite different from the current, more modest, homebody version of herself.
In Ling Hanyu’s eyes, this wasn’t simply a case of her having changed because her parents weren’t around and people were treating her coldly. It felt more like someone had swapped her identity.
Ling Hanyu looked at Song Qingtian without saying a word.
It wasn’t until Song Qingtian finished inspecting the car and turned to look at him that he spoke.
Ling Hanyu cast a quick glance at Song Qingtian, then looked off into the distance.
Song Qingtian said solemnly, “Mr. Ling, you’re being far too impulsive.”
Only then did Ling Hanyu finally look at Song Qingtian, studying her without the slightest attempt to hide his gaze.
Ling Hanyu asked, “Are you worried that if I accidentally run someone over and kill them, you’ll get dragged into it? Or are you more concerned about whether I, as your husband, will be okay?”
Song Qingtian unconsciously bit her lip. That was exactly it!
But when had Ling Hanyu ever been so nitpicky?
Impulsiveness is the devil, and being impulsive is never a good thing.
“After all, Mr. Ling is Nuonuo’s father, and I…”
“Song Qingtian, say one more word, and we’ll see what happens.”
Song Qingtian’s courage waned. If she wasn’t going to say anything, then she wouldn’t. What was there to test anyway?
Seeing that Song Qingtian had fallen silent, Ling Hanyu strode toward the seashore.
Song Qingtian didn’t dislike looking at the sea—she just wasn’t in the mood to do it with Ling Hanyu.
For Song Qingtian, any unnecessary things or people, spending time on them was nothing but a waste.
Unnecessary waste should be avoided whenever possible.
So she stayed put.
To Song Qingtian, Ling Hanyu was ultimately just another blemish—a stain left by an original female supporting character.
Song Qingtian watched Ling Hanyu’s back as he walked along the shore.
She couldn’t quite put her feelings into words. She could see the man’s bearing and strength, the charm and power inherent in his physique—but none of that could erase the beautiful memories she once had with Qin Xiaotian.
Qin Xiaotian still occupied most of her heart.
Even every passionate moment she shared with Ling Hanyu couldn’t shake off the regret left behind by Qin Xiaotian.
A gentle breeze blew, and Song Qingtian tilted her head back. The wind swept through, sending her long hair flying backward.
She closed her eyes and basked in the wind’s caress.
She also recalled all the wonderful moments she’d shared with Qin Xiaotian.
But…
All the beauty belonged to the past.
And that regret ultimately shattered her dreams.
Song Qingtian opened her eyes and smiled faintly.
Just as she was feeling helpless, she froze.
She was stunned to see the man standing right in front of her, so close that they were almost touching.
For a moment, Song Qingtian was completely bewildered.
What on earth was going on?
