Chapter 216: Partners

Song Qingtian had someone to pick her up—right outside the doorway, there was a car from the case-cracking team.

A Jeep.

Song Qingtian bent down and glanced inside, confirming that the person behind the wheel was the one who’d called her, then climbed in.

As soon as she got in, the driver pulled away.

It wasn’t exactly that they knew each other; it was just that they didn’t have time to waste on formalities.

The only person who came to pick up Song Qingtian was a young man in his twenties, not wearing a police uniform but dressed in the bold, rugged style of a wealthy second-generation heir.

The car was a super-Jeep. Song Qingtian had read some descriptions—it was practically a world-class limited edition, ultra-cool and dazzling.

Song Qingtian observed that the man was extremely aloof.

Without saying a word, he glanced at her in the rearview mirror—barely a nod, really.

Song Qingtian remained calm; she figured it was probably just a borrowed vehicle.

The case-cracking team really went to great lengths to solve the case.

Soon, Song Qingtian arrived at Diwang Yedu.

They pulled over not far from Diwang Yedu, and two uniformed officers came over to their car—one sat in the passenger seat, while the other took the backseat next to Song Qingtian.

“This is the plan: you two will pose as a couple and go inside. We’ll be keeping a close watch on you. Just observe—who’s behind this, and if anything suspicious turns up later, make your escape as soon as you can.”

The officer in the passenger seat pointed at the young driver and said, “He’ll take you in. The young man gave the officer a quick look, then lowered his head to study the plan.”

“Once he leaves, you need to keep cooperating. We’ll do our best to protect you, but don’t worry—you’ll be fine. They might slip you something, put it in your drink, or even try to strike up a conversation. Here’s an antidote we’ve been working on for ages. No matter what kind of date-rape drug they use, this will neutralize it. If they get too close and you sense something’s off, pop this right away, then drink whatever they’ve slipped into your drink, and you’ll be okay. Even if something does happen, we’ll still have your back. Understand?”

“Understood,” Song Qingtian replied with a nod.

The officer pulled out some clothes. “These are what you’ll wear. And here are the earpieces—we want you to wear them properly and not lose them.”

The officer beside Song Qingtian began giving detailed instructions and making final preparations.

Song Qingtian cooperated fully with every step.

When it was time to change, she took off her coat and slipped into a super-short crop top, paired with shorts that showed off her long legs.

She also put on fishnet stockings and chunky peep-toe high heels.

The female investigator doing her makeup said, “This type of criminal always goes for people like this—and hair, too. Better make it even more dramatic.”

Song Qingtian complied with everything. Once she was all set, the driver got in.

The officer in the passenger seat also climbed back into the car and made a formal introduction: “Shen Conghao! Song Qingtian!”

Song Qingtian thought for a moment—why did Shen Conghao seem so much like that super-dominant CEO?

She studied him carefully and couldn’t help but think: could such a super-dominant CEO really be behind this?

What kind of idle rich kid would do something like this?

Shen Conghao glanced at Song Qingtian but didn’t say a word.

Song Qingtian was ready, put on her earpieces, and waited a bit.

Only when the two investigators got out of the car did Song Qingtian speak up: “Let’s drive around for a bit. Showing up like this now isn’t exactly appropriate.”

Song Qingtian had experience solving cases—and even cracking them before.

So she had her own ideas.

Shen Conghao glanced at her in the rearview mirror, then started the engine and drove off.

The earpieces crackled with questions from the investigators: Where are you headed?

Song Qingtian told them, “I need to use the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”

The investigators didn’t dare say much—after all, they couldn’t exactly refuse to let her use the restroom, could they?

Song Qingtian’s car made a quick loop, then Shen Conghao pulled over. Song Qingtian got out and walked over to a spot, ducked inside, and emerged a little while later.

Shen Conghao watched her, then opened the door and got back in.

This time, he sat in the passenger seat.

Shen Conghao started the engine and headed back, quickly returning to Diwang Yedu.

As soon as they got out, Song Qingtian wrapped her arms around Shen Conghao’s neck and smiled at him: “Honey, you promised to buy me a diamond ring—no backing out now!”

Shen Conghao looked down at her, his expression still icy cold, but there was no denying he was a natural heartthrob.

His face almost surpassed Ling Hanyu’s—in fact, it was even colder and more arrogant.

Yet his hand slid around Song Qingtian’s waist, pulling her firmly into his embrace, lifting her chin, and planting a kiss on her lips.

Song Qingtian froze, blinking twice with her big, striking eyes, her breathing growing a bit rapid.

Oh dear!

Shen Conghao’s lips curled into a mischievous grin.

Then he turned and led Song Qingtian back into Diwang Yedu.

Before they even entered, the doorman caught sight of Song Qingtian and froze for a moment: “The Young Madam?”

Was this…?

An illusion?

Or someone else entirely?

Shen Conghao shot the man a cold glance, then turned away and led Song Qingtian inside.

As soon as the two appeared, they immediately drew a wave of admiring stares—their high-profile looks and confident demeanor made them undeniably two of the most captivating beauties in the entire city.

Especially when they were out on the dance floor, wildly dancing and flirting, the screams were so loud they nearly shook the roof off the building.
