Chapter 222: Nothing About Him Is Trustworthy Except His Appearance

Song Qingtian was utterly helpless; Ling Hanyu was simply too overbearing.

Still, she was very satisfied that Ling Hanyu had agreed to listen to her and go home. So she decided not to dwell on it.

After dinner, Ling Nuonuo hugged Song Qingtian and said, “Mommy, can I stay here for one night? Please?”

“Of course!”

Song Qingtian picked up her daughter, knowing how curious she was about new things, and readily agreed.

Ling Hanyu didn’t object, so they stayed for one night.

That evening, Secretary Yang came over to report on the progress of the investigation team. The suspect they had caught was indeed the culprit. Not only had they found plenty of evidence at his home, but they’d also discovered two cell phones in his car—phones that contained several incriminating videos. All of this constituted strong proof for securing a conviction.

Song Qingtian sat on the sofa, feeling a bit uneasy. She couldn’t shake the feeling that more trouble was still ahead.

Ling Hanyu, however, seemed completely oblivious to what Secretary Yang was saying, continuing to sit there and listen.

Finally, Secretary Yang spoke up: “The investigators would like to invite Madam over to express their gratitude in person.”

Only then did Ling Hanyu look up. “Tell them that if they leak the video of Madam solving the case, they’ll be held legally responsible. Inviting Madam to help them solve the case without my permission has already caused me great harm and loss. If they don’t want any trouble, they’d better behave themselves.”

Secretary Yang cautiously glanced over at Song Qingtian; seeing that she remained silent, he nodded in agreement.

“Yes.”

With that, Secretary Yang took his leave. But Ling Hanyu called him back: “Tell them this will never happen again.”

Yang Yifan reluctantly obliged and departed.

Song Qingtian breathed a sigh of relief as Yang Yifan left.

Ling Hanyu crossed his legs and went back to reading.

Song Qingtian sat to one side, ready to get up and leave.

But Ling Hanyu stopped her: “Are you really going to walk out like that?”

“Otherwise what?” Song Qingtian asked, puzzled.

Ling Hanyu chuckled softly. “There’s no ‘otherwise.’”

He turned his head away and looked at Song Qingtian. “You’re my wife, so whatever you do still needs my approval—especially this matter. It hasn’t just hurt my interests; it’s also damaged my reputation.”

Song Qingtian, of course, understood exactly what Ling Hanyu meant. The fact that she was his wife was something no one could change. So whatever she did—especially something as sensitive as solving a case—had to have Ling Hanyu’s consent.

The two locked eyes for a moment, and Song Qingtian nodded. “I’ll be more careful from now on!”

“Not just careful,” Ling Hanyu said. “You belong to me now. Pull yourself together, stop looking around aimlessly, or you might ruin your eyesight!”

Song Qingtian said nothing. Whether her eyes were ruined or not was none of his business. But a wise man doesn’t argue with someone who’s clearly in the wrong—and besides, agreeing wouldn’t really change anything anyway.

Ling Hanyu felt inexplicably annoyed. This wasn’t what he wanted. Yet he felt as though he’d swallowed a dead fly—utterly disgusted. After all, it was he who had asked for it, and Song Qingtian had even agreed. Now that his goal had been achieved, why on earth was he still so unhappy?

That was precisely the problem.

Ling Hanyu went back to reading, refusing to think about it any further.

Song Qingtian, meanwhile, was exhausted and got up to go to bed.

Ling Hanyu glanced at her and continued reading.

It wasn’t until late at night that Ling Hanyu finally returned.

By then, Song Qingtian was already fast asleep, holding her daughter in her arms.

When Ling Hanyu climbed into bed, he cast a glance at Song Qingtian and recalled the scene of her crying, begging Qin Xiaotian not to leave. He turned over and lay with his back to them.

As a result, he spent the entire night wide awake.

The next morning, Song Qingtian woke up early—early because she’d gone to bed early.

Ling Nuonuo still had school to attend, and Song Qingtian had promised to make breakfast and take her to school. So getting up early was part of her plan.

After Ling Nuonuo finished breakfast, Song Qingtian took her to school.

Meanwhile, Aunt Chen tidied up Yunhai Pavilion and headed back to the villa.

Song Qingtian, on the other hand, accompanied Ling Hanyu to the office.

As soon as they entered the company, Song Qingtian reverted to her role as the president’s secretary. Following Ling Hanyu upstairs to his office, she went to brew some coffee.

Once the coffee was set down, she waited by the side. Ling Hanyu gave her a quick look and signaled with his eyes for her to sit down, so she complied.

When Secretary Yang finished reporting and left, Ling Hanyu told her, “You’re my wife—there’s no need for you to do anything at the company.”

“But I have to do something,” Song Qingtian protested. “If I don’t, I’ll just be useless.”

“If you really want to, take a look at the documents,” Ling Hanyu suggested.

Song Qingtian figured she might as well help out, so she got up and joined in. She pulled over a chair and settled in, focusing intently on the papers.

Ling Hanyu watched her, thinking to himself: “Apart from her looks, there’s nothing trustworthy about her!”
