Chapter 227: The Death of My Parents
Chapter 227: The Death of My Parents
Song Qingtian suddenly remembered something as well: Bai Ge had many lovers, but among them there was one who was particularly special—one who could prove to be a great help to her in the future and would become her strongest ally within the Song Family.
“Who?”
Song Qingtian wasn’t about to reveal it right away; she just stared at Ling Hanyu without saying a word.
“Who?”
Ling Hanyu’s tone left no room for refusal.
After a moment’s thought, Song Qingtian leaned down and whispered a name into Ling Hanyu’s ear!
Ling Hanyu was momentarily taken aback, then turned his head to look at Song Qingtian. “Are you sure about this?”
Song Qingtian remained silent—after all, even if it was a mistake in the novel, she herself couldn’t have gotten it wrong.
“If it really is him, then Song Haichang is beyond saving. After all, there’s been a long-standing grudge between them,” Ling Hanyu said, clearly aware of some of the details.
“Song Haichang was already unlucky to run into Bai Ge—and now he’s even worse off because he ran into Chen Jianxiu.”
“I say he only got unlucky because he ran into you!”
Song Qingtian looked at Ling Hanyu, but she didn’t argue. It was true that giving favors had led to trouble, and there was no need for her to explain further.
Ling Hanyu leaned against her for a while, and when he looked at Song Qingtian, he had to tilt his head back to meet her gaze.
The two locked eyes, and Ling Hanyu asked, “Do you really mind what happened with Song Yinyin?”
“It’s in the past—why bring it up? I’m not upset about Song Yinyin; I just don’t want anyone hurting my daughter. That’s all.”
“Turns out it’s still Nuonuo after all.”
Ling Hanyu was truly exasperated.
Was he the one at fault?
“Nuonuo’s still young, so of course I have to think about her.”
“What about me, then?”
Ling Hanyu simply refused to accept it.
Song Qingtian found it odd: “You’re such a grown man, yet you’re acting like a child over a little girl? And besides, she’s just a kid!”
Ling Hanyu stayed silent and closed his eyes.
Song Qingtian kept pressing, and suddenly Ling Hanyu spoke up.
“What’s your name?”
Song Qingtian hadn’t quite caught on yet and opened her mouth… then fell silent again.
Ling Hanyu opened his eyes, and the two locked gazes once more. His smile didn’t reach his eyes as he closed them again. “Put some effort into it! It’s like you haven’t eaten enough!”
Only then did Song Qingtian apply more pressure—but her heart was pounding.
Ling Hanyu’s latest move had left Song Qingtian feeling uncertain. She knew he was constantly testing her, and she’d grown accustomed to handling it. But who could stand being treated like this all the time?
Ling Hanyu dozed off for a bit, and while he slept, Song Qingtian checked the news on her phone.
She had no idea when Ling Hanyu woke up, but she suddenly felt someone behind her. When she turned around, she saw Ling Hanyu standing there, watching her.
“You scared me half to death!” Song Qingtian was furious. “This jerk—does he know how terrifying it is to scare people like that?”
Ling Hanyu glanced at her phone. “Now that things have come to this, feeling guilty won’t change anything.”
“Who says I’m feeling guilty? Song Haichang killed my parents, and I…”
Song Qingtian suddenly fell silent, and Ling Hanyu tilted his head slightly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
“Say it again…”
Song Qingtian remained quiet.
Ling Hanyu’s expression grew increasingly grim. “What exactly happened with your father and mother?”
Song Qingtian turned away, clutching her phone tightly.
Ling Hanyu fixed his gaze on the hand holding the phone. “What’s going on?”
Song Qingtian slowly relaxed her grip.
“Nothing much—just a suspicion. I think my parents’ deaths might be connected to the Song Family, though I’m not sure whether Song Haichang was the mastermind. Now that he’s in trouble, I wanted to get a feel for the situation, so I’ve been reading the news.”
Ling Hanyu walked around the sofa and sat down by the coffee table, staring at Song Qingtian.
Song Qingtian avoided his gaze, looking elsewhere.
Ling Hanyu cupped her chin and lifted her head. “Be honest!”
Song Qingtian took a deep breath and said to Ling Hanyu, “Before my parents passed away, Song Haichang brought some people to our house to borrow money. My father beat him up, and when he saw my father wasn’t around, he started making advances toward my mother. My father came running down from upstairs and happened to see it. In a fit of rage, he beat Song Haichang. After that incident, my parents were involved in a car accident.”
Ling Hanyu frowned slightly. “And then?”
“And then… after my parents’ accident, they took control of all the assets under my father’s name. By the time you got your hands on them, they’d already been misappropriated. Plus, they only handed over 60% of the assets—40% remained unaccounted for. Even if they spent a little, it was far too little.”
“So where’s the money, and who’s the mastermind?” Ling Hanyu had already guessed what Song Qingtian was thinking.
But Song Qingtian remained silent.
“Speak up.”
“I’m still investigating.”
Song Qingtian was still pondering—there were so many details she just couldn’t recall. When she read novels, she’d roughly outlined the plot, but she wasn’t even sure what she’d actually read. Occasionally, a fragment would pop into her mind, but only occasionally. Some things she simply didn’t understand.
Ling Hanyu stayed silent, his eyes deep and penetrating.
Song Qingtian thought for a moment. “I suspect someone colluded with Song Haichang to kill my parents—partly out of revenge. My father severely beat Song Haichang, nearly killing him in our home. But on that day, someone accompanied Song Haichang. Those people were from the Song family, and they’d surely have something to say. Maybe they were the ones who conspired, but I can’t remember exactly who went along.”
Song Qingtian was utterly frustrated—she didn’t even know the key details.
