Chapter 228: Pretending to Be Crazy

Song Qingtian suddenly remembered that the deaths of Song Haichao and his wife might have been the result of foul play, so she decided to investigate.

However, it was only recently that she had this thought.

Therefore, when she was planning to frame Chen Jianxiu earlier, she never imagined she would end up going after Song Haichang.

But by a twist of fate, things turned out this way instead.

As for anything else, Song Qingtian couldn’t recall.

Still, Song Qingtian could understand why Ling Hanyu was so angry.

Although Song Haichao had forcibly arranged for his daughter to marry Ling Hanyu, Ling Hanyu had always been grateful to Song Haichao.

Song Haichao valued talent and believed in him, offering him plenty of help; even without Song Qingtian, Song Haichao treated Ling Hanyu well.

Song Haichao once said that even if there were no personal ties between them, he would still be willing to help Ling Hanyu.

As for Ling Hanyu as Song Haichao’s son-in-law—whether it was forced or out of gratitude—it didn’t really matter now.

Given how things had turned out, there was no point in dwelling on it any longer.

All she hoped was that, remembering his role as a father who had once helped Ling Hanyu, he would treat her daughter kindly.

Right now, it was only natural that Song Haichao’s death might have enraged Ling Hanyu.

After all, Ling Hanyu was seeing that his benefactor had been murdered.

When Song Haichao was still alive and Ling Hanyu was just starting out, it was Song Haichang who had helped him.

Even if he didn’t approve of Song Qingtian, Ling Hanyu would always remember that kindness.

At first, when Song Haichao’s assets were seized, she assumed he was trying to keep them for himself.

But after learning more, she realized there might be another reason.

Ling Hanyu swallowed hard and said, “So you’re saying Song Haichang is a scumbag?”

Song Qingtian looked at Ling Hanyu and replied, “He wasn’t exactly a good person to begin with. I’m just looking at the facts. Now that he’s like this, Bai Ge might take a look at him, but she won’t save him. Fortunately, lawsuits take time—unless Bai Ge secretly pulls strings to get Song Haichang locked up for good, I’ll always have a chance to find out what really happened.”

“But I’m not sure. And if it really was Song Haichang and some others who conspired to kill my parents, then he definitely doesn’t think much of me. No matter what, he won’t meet with me. The longer he delays meeting me, the less certain I am. So I’m trying to figure out what to do.”

Ling Hanyu lowered his hands and sat there, watching Song Qingtian.

Song Qingtian felt uncomfortable under his gaze: “You don’t have to look at me like that. This whole thing… I only found out about it recently myself.”

“I’ve made an appointment to meet Song Haichang.”

Ling Hanyu stood up and walked over to his desk.

Song Qingtian knew Ling Hanyu must have a plan—after all, he had an extensive network.

So she’d been thinking about asking him for advice.

But she hadn’t intended to spill everything; now, though, there was no way to keep it hidden.

Song Qingtian leaned back on the sofa, lost in thought—and actually feeling a bit down.

She hadn’t planned to tell Ling Hanyu about it, but she’d let it slip anyway.

After Ling Hanyu finished his call, he called Song Qingtian over.

The two of them left the Company and headed to meet Song Haichang.

Song Haichang looked utterly dejected, almost delirious.

When he saw Song Qingtian, he barely recognized her, repeatedly insisting, “I didn’t kill anyone! I didn’t kill anyone!”

Judging by his condition, he clearly seemed insane.

Ling Hanyu stood to one side, hands in his pockets, watching Song Haichang.

This was a hospital, and Song Haichang was acting wildly—like he’d gone mad.

Song Qingtian, meanwhile, was carefully observing him, suspecting that he might be faking his madness.

After all, at this point, both his legs were useless, and he’d suffered a terrible fall. It was said that when he beat Chen Jianxiu to death, he could barely get out of bed and could only fight with great difficulty. If he hadn’t acted impulsively, he probably wouldn’t have been able to strike at all.

Yet he did manage to kill Chen Jianxiu—partly because he exhausted himself, nearly damaging his own internal organs, and also because he was terrified.

Now he was being held here, with guards posted outside his room.

If Song Haichang was afraid of dying, the best thing for him to do right now was to pretend to be crazy and claim mental instability, which would land him in a psychiatric hospital rather than prison.

“I’m still trying to figure out a way to get Uncle Er out of there, but it looks hopeless now. Let’s just leave.”

With that, Song Qingtian linked arms with Ling Hanyu and turned to walk away.

As they stepped out of the ward, Song Qingtian kept waiting, but Song Haichang didn’t call her. She was a bit disappointed, and only stopped a short distance from the door.

She stood there, staring toward the ward.

Was Song Haichang really insane?
