Chapter 236: Heaven’s Favoritism

Song Qingtian woke up from bed, only to find the room empty. The room had been mostly tidied up, with fresh clothes laid out by her bedside.

She got out of bed and went to look in the mirror. As she pulled back the sheet covering her body, Song Qingtian gasped in shock.

“Is Ling Hanyu even human? He’s a dog!” She looked around to make sure there were no tears or rips in the fabric. “As long as it’s not infected with bacteria, I’ll go wash up.”

After changing into clean clothes, Song Qingtian headed out. The huge villa felt eerily empty—she couldn’t bring herself to like it at all.

Leaning over the railing on the upper floor, Song Qingtian gazed down below. People really were strange. When they were poor, they dreamed of living in an enormous house—preferably one all their own, where even going to the bathroom took ages. But once they had money, everything seemed so fleeting. Especially for someone like her, who couldn’t even see her own family.

Thinking of her elderly father, Song Qingtian’s heart sank. She was filled with reluctance to leave, yet burdened by countless worries about not being able to return.

“What are you staring at?” Suddenly, a voice came from down the hallway.

Song Qingtian nearly jumped out of her skin. She turned to see Ling Hanyu standing right by the study door. He wore beige trousers, a white undershirt, and a gray striped shirt—dashing and effortlessly elegant. His hands were casually shoved into his pockets, and the top button of his shirt was left unbuttoned. Just standing there, he seemed to radiate a star-like aura.

Song Qingtian’s eyebrows twitched. “Heaven, why are you so biased? You gave Ling Hanyu intelligence and talent, plus a privileged background—but why also give him such good looks? So many people can’t even get one of those things!”

Song Qingtian remained silent as Ling Hanyu walked toward her. He stopped and smiled. “Are you still half-asleep, too dazzled by my good looks to think straight?”

Song Qingtian rolled her eyes. “I’ve seen conceited people before, but this is taking it to a whole new level. Shameless!”

“I scared you!” Song Qingtian said, her mood already calmer.

Ling Hanyu suddenly grinned and walked past her toward the stairs. Song Qingtian stared after him, puzzled. “Having a great figure really does make all the difference. No matter what he wears, he looks like a walking mannequin. I’m used to seeing him in formal business attire, so I always assumed that was just his natural advantage. Who would have thought that even in casual clothes, he’s still absolutely perfect—so elegant and striking!”

“Come on down. If you’re not tired, head back. Nuonuo’s waiting anxiously at home—she’s called several times,” Ling Hanyu reminded her as he walked. Remembering her daughter, Song Qingtian hurried downstairs.

Ling Hanyu was already putting on his shoes, ready to leave, and she quickly did the same before stepping out of the villa. Song Zuo was quick—faster even than Ling Hanyu. Ling Hanyu had grown accustomed to following behind Song Qingtian as they got into the car and drove off.

On the way, Ling Hanyu told Song Qingtian that Song Yinyin had filed a lawsuit, claiming that she was responsible for Song Haichang’s death. Song Qingtian found the whole thing rather amusing—but she didn’t laugh at all. Instead, as she looked out the window, she saw another pile of shiny silver coins. A faint smile tugged at the corner of her mouth, and she looked so beautiful that even Ling Hanyu couldn’t help but glance at her, his heart practically leaping out of his chest.

“What crazy idea are you thinking up now?” “Nothing. I just think that after being publicly humiliated, I can’t possibly let Kong Yuxiao and Zhou Zishan get away with it so easily.”

Ling Hanyu shot her a disapproving look. “Aren’t you ashamed?”

“Not in the least!” Song Qingtian replied, turning to face him. “They bullied me and did terrible things—why should they be ashamed while I’m not?”

Ling Hanyu said nothing, his expression cold. After all, he was the president of a major conglomerate, and his wife spent all day scheming how to extort others. Was that really something to be proud of? She clearly thought so.

Song Qingtian’s smile widened. With Song Yinyin by her side, she knew exactly how to make money—and that was a surefire path to wealth!
