Chapter 280: Catching Them in the Act

Ling Hanyu waited until Song Qingtian returned before he went to review the surveillance footage.

Although it was nighttime, that didn’t hinder his ability to watch the footage.

Ling Hanyu would never be careless about something like this!

Sure enough, he saw someone appear on the screen, but he couldn’t make out who it was—only that it was a woman.

She was short and moved rather clumsily.

Ling Hanyu found it a bit odd: a woman?

Song Yinyin?

The thought made Ling Hanyu’s expression grow somber.

Recalling what Song Qingtian had told him, he realized that the deep rift between himself and the original Song Qingtian had all been caused by Song Yinyin’s interference. Later, when Song Qingtian was involved in a car accident and died while pregnant with twins, Song Yinyin lavished attention on him and even took charge of caring for Nuonuo. Before long, she became his wife.

So, in the end, it was the one who’d done the harm who ended up reaping the rewards, while the one who’d suffered was branded as the villain.

And as for the Song Family’s assets, they all fell into Song Yinyin’s hands.

Song Haichao’s entire family had perished, making Ling Nuonuo the direct heir—but Ling Nuonuo was still too young, so her inheritance rights were quite limited. By contrast, Song Yinyin’s inheritance rights were relatively substantial.

Without hesitation, Ling Hanyu handed everything over to Song Yinyin.

Standing on the upper floor, Ling Hanyu cast a casual glance down below.

Aunt Chen hadn’t gone to bed yet and happened to look up just as she caught sight of Ling Hanyu’s gaze directed toward the ground floor.

It felt a little eerie.

“Mister!”

Aunt Chen was startled, wondering what on earth was wrong with Ling Hanyu.

“Miss Chen, you should go get some rest now.”

“Yes, sir.”

Aunt Chen left to rest, and Ling Hanyu stood on the upper floor for a while.

On a whim, he stepped outside.

No sooner had he opened the door than his phone rang.

Ling Hanyu checked the caller ID—and sure enough, it was Song Qingtian.

“Hello!”

“Come upstairs! I’ve missed you so much!”

Then the call was abruptly cut off.

Ling Hanyu glanced toward the front door, put away his phone, and headed back upstairs.

By the time he entered the room, his daughter was already asleep—she’d taken a bath and changed into her pajamas, lying in bed cuddling her doll.

Ling Hanyu closed the door and sat down beside Song Qingtian.

“Time to sleep, huh?”

Song Qingtian knew full well that Ling Hanyu was deliberately avoiding mentioning his earlier trip to the front door.

“You were going to the front door?”

If Ling Hanyu wouldn’t bring it up, then she would!

“I’m back now, aren’t I? Besides, it wasn’t dangerous—it was Song Yinyin.”

Ling Hanyu had already lain down on the bed, hugging his daughter and planting a kiss on her forehead.

Song Qingtian was puzzled: “How did you know?”

“The surveillance footage showed it was a woman; judging by her build, it must have been her.”

Knowing it was Song Yinyin, Song Qingtian breathed a sigh of relief.

In Song Qingtian’s eyes, Song Yinyin’s little tricks were hardly worth mentioning.

Once in bed, Song Qingtian pulled the blanket up over herself and lay down beside her daughter.

She needed to rest and regain her strength so she could fight to reclaim what was rightfully hers.

Song Qingtian turned over and wrapped her arms around her daughter, only to feel Ling Hanyu’s hand slip into the space between them.

She opened her eyes and glanced over, then shifted her hand slightly, ready to go back to sleep.

But no sooner had she moved her hand than Ling Hanyu’s immediately reached out and pulled it back to its original position, interlacing their fingers.

Song Qingtian didn’t want to pay any attention to Ling Hanyu; she kept her eyes shut and soon drifted back to sleep.

“Hey!”

Ling Hanyu called out to Song Qingtian, but she didn’t respond—she was fast asleep, cuddling her daughter in perfect bliss.

Once he was certain she was asleep, Ling Hanyu slowly withdrew his hand and got up, leaving the bedroom.

Stepping outside, Ling Hanyu made a phone call: “Find out more about the car accident involving Song Haichao and his wife.”

After hanging up, he headed out of the villa.

He paused at the entrance for a moment, then walked outside.

Although Ling Hanyu had told Song Qingtian that the person outside was Song Yinyin, he couldn’t be completely sure. He’d gone outside precisely to confirm whether the person out there really was Song Yinyin.

If it was indeed Song Yinyin, then there was nothing to worry about.

But if it wasn’t, then the situation would be entirely different.

With his wife and child right here, how could he possibly feel at ease?

As he stepped outside, Ling Hanyu stopped for a brief moment at the doorway.

Hands shoved deep into his pockets, he surveyed the scene from the threshold.

Just then, someone pounced from behind him, wrapping their arms tightly around his waist.

“Hanyu, I’ve missed you so much!”

Song Yinyin was practically dying to get close to Ling Hanyu.

She’d long coveted him.

If this was an opportunity, she’d gladly sacrifice herself—even if it meant being reduced to dust.

Ling Hanyu kept a cold, impassive expression, preparing to push Song Yinyin away.

At that very moment, Song Qingtian’s voice echoed from the courtyard: “What are you two doing?”

Ling Hanyu froze, quickly pulling away from Song Yinyin and turning to look. Sure enough, there was Song Qingtian, standing across from him in her pajamas, her eyes wide with anticipation, watching him intently!
