Chapter 41: A Heart Slowly Drawing Near
“Daddy! Are you waiting to take Nuonuo out to play?”
Little angel Nuonuo quickly eased the awkward atmosphere between the two, and Song Qingtian hurriedly spoke up.
“Nuonuo, your daddy is so busy—he definitely doesn’t have time to go play with you. How about Mommy takes you to the amusement park to ride the carousel later?”
“But I want to go with Daddy!”
“I didn’t go to work today just to spend the whole day playing with you two. Thinking it over, I’ve been too busy with work lately and really haven’t spent enough time with you. I’ll gradually do better from now on.”
“Wow, Daddy, you’re so good! Nuonuo loves you the most!”
Song Qingtian thought she must be dreaming at this moment—how could that dog of a man, Ling Hanyu, possibly say such things? She pinched herself hard.
“Ouch, that hurts!”
Song Qingtian quickly rubbed her arm where she’d been pinched.
Ling Hanyu looked at Song Qingtian with a mocking smile in his peach-shaped eyes. “What’s wrong? Did hearing me say that make you so excited you even hit yourself?”
“You don’t have to go to all this trouble, Mr. Ling. I’ll take good care of Nuonuo,” Song Qingtian said through gritted teeth, even addressing him as “Mr. Ling.”
Unfortunately, Ling Hanyu completely ignored her and simply picked up Nuonuo, placing her in the baby seat.
“Nuonuo, eat up—Daddy’s going to spend the whole day with you and Mommy today.”
He deliberately emphasized the words “the whole day,” and as he said them, he purposely glanced at Song Qingtian. Seeing her disgruntled expression, he felt thoroughly smug.
After dinner, the family of three headed out. Song Qingtian looked listless and kept yawning.
Seeing her like this, Ling Hanyu wrapped one arm around Nuonuo and the other around Song Qingtian’s waist.
Song Qingtian hastily slapped his hand away.
“Behave yourself in front of the child.”
“So you’re saying it’s okay as long as we’re not in front of the child?”
Ling Hanyu leaned down slightly and whispered softly into Song Qingtian’s ear.
“Shame, shame, shame! Daddy and Mommy are so shameful!”
Nuonuo said this while making a shy face, and Song Qingtian glared angrily at Ling Hanyu.
She figured it must be that “good” word she’d said last night that had thrown Ling Hanyu off balance—or maybe Song Yinyin had slipped him some kind of drug. Otherwise, how could he suddenly turn into a model husband and a model dad?
Oh no, this world has gone crazy!
Song Qingtian wanted to bang her head against the wall in frustration.
Once they reached the garage, Ling Hanyu handed Nuonuo to Song Qingtian, then chose a very low-key Mercedes-Benz business van. Song Qingtian sat in the back with the child in her arms, watching Ling Hanyu drive with practiced ease.
She rested her chin on her hand and soon became lost in thought.
If only she were wearing Song Yinyin’s clothes, she wouldn’t have to worry about falling for Ling Hanyu. But she was a vicious supporting female—and a vicious supporting female who’d already gotten her “lunchbox” early. She really cherished her own life.
“Mommy, are you peeking at Daddy?”
Seeing Song Qingtian staring at Ling Hanyu’s back as soon as she got in the car, Nuonuo innocently asked.
Hearing Nuonuo’s question, a faint smile unconsciously spread across Ling Hanyu’s lips. He knew this woman couldn’t resist his charm; she was making such a fuss just to get him to treat her a little better.
Song Qingtian quickly peeled a lollipop and shoved it into Nuonuo’s mouth to shut her up.
“Mommy’s just helping Daddy check the road ahead to see if it’s safe to pass.”
“Okay.”
Nuonuo’s attention was now completely captured by the lollipop, and she no longer cared whether her mommy was peeking at Barbie or not.
They soon arrived at the amusement park, and the vendor selling little toys at the entrance, seeing this well-off family of three, sweet-talked them as if he’d smeared honey on his lips.
