Chapter 111: Counterattack 37
However, just as she reached the entrance to Ming Shuo’s office and hadn’t yet raised her hand to knock, she heard an extremely agitated voice coming from inside.
“Is it really true? Is it her? Can we really be sure it’s her?”
Other than that, there was not a single other sound in the room.
It looked like someone was on the phone.
As for who they were talking to, Liu Qinxin couldn’t make sense of it.
But her heart skipped a beat, and she had a very bad feeling.
Ming Shuo—this man who had hurt her for over twenty years and spoiled her for over twenty years—had spent more than half of those years sleeping with his head resting on her shoulder.
As far as he was concerned, Liu Qinxin thought she knew him quite well.
She could even tell exactly what he was thinking and what he was about to do just by one of his gestures, one of his glances, or one of his smiles.
For over twenty years.
Yet this unnamed male operative had never before let out such heartfelt excitement, nor had he ever shown such unabashed joy.
Even toward her!
Even toward the children she had painstakingly given birth to for him!
So who exactly was this “her” he was talking about?
Suddenly, Liu Qinxin recalled Ming Yue’s deliberately provocative words that night.
That madwoman had mentioned more than once why Ming Shuo liked her, why he doted on her, and why he had chosen her above all the other beautiful women…
At the time, Liu Qinxin had simply dismissed it all as the madwoman deliberately trying to make life difficult for her, paying it no mind at all.
But now, when she thought about it again, her heart sank uncontrollably. The more she thought about it, the more anxious and dizzy she felt.
So Liu Qinxin bit her lip, tiptoed, and pressed her ear tightly against the door of Ming Shuo’s office, hoping to hear more clearly.
But just as she made this move—and before she could hear anything important—a voice she never particularly liked suddenly rang out.
“Miss Liu, you’re here! Are you here to see our General Manager Ming? He’s right inside—why don’t you try knocking?”
It was one of Ming Shuo’s secretaries, named Wang Cai.
She was always dressed up in flashy, gaudy clothes, which was irritating to look at.
Liu Qinxin had long wanted to get rid of her.
But no matter how subtly she hinted at it, Ming Shuo refused to agree, insisting that Wang Cai was highly capable, reliable, and thorough—truly a rare talent.
Now this damn secretary, Wang Cai, had actually spoken so loudly that the person inside must have heard her. Liu Qinxin felt like strangling her on the spot.
Still, she couldn’t lose her temper—or offend this trusted, indispensable aide whom her own man relied on most. So she cleared her throat twice, forced a smile, and said, “All right, I understand. Thank you, Secretary Wang.”
“No need to thank me—it’s my job.”
Wang Cai gave a slight nod, smiled as she picked up her files, and walked away.
Liu Qinxin also wore a smile as she watched Wang Cai leave.
Finally, when Wang Cai had gone far enough, Liu Qinxin turned to face the heavy, closed door in front of her, still hesitating about what to do next, when the door creaked open from the inside.
Before Liu Qinxin could say a word, the man behind the door already wore a cold expression and spoke in a somewhat stiff tone: “What are you doing here? How long have you been here? What do you want?”
It was as if he were interrogating a criminal.
Over all these years, this man had almost never spoken to her like this—more accurately, he had never spoken to her like this at all.
