Chapter 126: Counterattack 52
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Get out—just get out! I don’t want to see you, I really don’t! Get out, now—hurry up and get out!”
The woman, huddled in the corner with her arms tightly wrapped around herself, timidly glanced at Ming Yue, her expression a complex mix of emotions.
Ming Yao leaned forward on his crutch, taking two steps closer until he sat on the edge of the bed. He reached out once more, his large, trembling hand toward his mother. “Mom, what are you saying? This is my sister—your own flesh and blood!”
“I’m not making this up! Tell her to leave—tell her to get out right now!” His mother still tried to evade him, but she shot Ming Yao a pleading look for help.
Tears had already overflowed from Ming Yao’s eyes.
With a choked voice, he reached out and grasped his mother’s arm, holding it tightly. “Mom, Mom! If others slander my sister, that just shows how malicious they are. You can’t treat her like this! She’s your daughter—your own flesh and blood, part of you!”
“I don’t want to hear it! I refuse to listen! You leave too—both of you, leave now!”
His mother snatched her hand away, clutching both ears tightly, shaking her head frantically while muttering something under her breath.
Ming Yao wanted to move even closer to try to persuade his mother.
But Ming Yue gently placed her hand on her younger brother’s shoulder. “Yaoyao, get up first. Stop trying to talk—she won’t listen. Let me handle this.”
“Sister?”
Ming Yao didn’t rise; instead, he tilted his head back, looking at his sister in confusion.
Ming Yue nodded at him. “Do as I say.”
“Sister.”
“Sister knows what she’s doing.”
“But…”
As if she’d guessed her sister’s intention, Ming Yao hesitated rather than rising immediately. Instead, he looked at her again, his eyes full of question.
Ming Yue, however, had run out of patience.
She sighed and called out to the hallway, “Jiang Feng, are you out there?”
“Yes,” came the reply.
Jiang Feng answered but didn’t rush to open the door.
Ming Yue said firmly, “Come in.”
“Okay.”
His voice was soft and gentle. Soon, his tall figure slipped into the room, standing behind Ming Yue and Ming Yao. He glanced briefly at the “mother-in-law” hiding in the corner, then at his little brother sobbing uncontrollably, and finally at Ming Yue, who was deliberately holding herself back. He didn’t ask why Ming Yue had called him in.
Ming Yue didn’t bother with further words. She took hold of her younger brother’s arm, pulling him off the bed and handing him directly to Jiang Feng. “Watch over my brother for me—stand a bit farther away.”
“Got it.”
Jiang Feng lived up to the task, half-carrying, half-supporting Ming Yao’s arm as he pulled the man, leaning on his crutch, several paces away. Like a high-end bodyguard, he stood quietly over there, keeping Ming Yao steady.
Still uneasy, Ming Yao frowned and said to Ming Yue, “Sister, be gentle—Mom… she’s still not fully conscious!”
“Not being conscious isn’t an excuse.”
Ming Yue let out a long sigh, releasing all the anger building inside her. She forced herself to stay as calm as possible and refused to dwell on the things her mother had said.
Patiently, she sat down—not on the stool she’d been sitting on before, but right by her mother’s hospital bed, facing her directly, very close, staring straight into her mother’s eyes.
“Mom, you told me to leave? Fine—fine—fine! After all these years, you’ve swung between moments of madness and clarity, going back and forth, yet you still haven’t figured it out, have you? Do you still think I’m a ‘Sang Men Xing,’ that I’ve brought misfortune upon you, upon Grandpa, upon Brother, upon Yaoyao?”
