Chapter 125: Counterattack 51
When Ming Yue entered the room, her Mother was already asleep, thanks to the medication. There was still a fresh wound on her forehead from a recent bump. Although it had been bandaged, you could still see blood seeping through the gauze. She pulled over a stool and sat on the edge of the bed, examined her Mother’s wound, then carefully adjusted the blankets and the stray strands of hair that had fallen across her forehead. Yet she didn’t say a single word to the doctor who had come to treat her Mother—nor did she ask a single question.
The others glanced at Jiang Feng, as if seeking his opinion. Seeing him lower his eyes slightly, they quietly withdrew. The Butler who had entered with them also left at Jiang Feng’s subtle signal. Now, in the room, besides Ming Yue’s sleeping Mother, there were only Ming Yue and her younger brother, along with Jiang Feng.
Jiang Feng moved a stool over for Ming Yao, then dragged another one for himself, and sat down beside Ming Yue and Ming Yao, silently observing the two siblings who hadn’t said a word for quite some time before finally speaking.
“Ming Yue, Ming Yao, have you ever thought about bringing Mom back over there to live with us?”
“We have,” Ming Yao answered for his sister, pausing briefly before continuing, “Although Mom’s condition is now under effective control, her episodes still occur quite frequently, and when she’s awake she’s always like this. We’re worried she might upset Grandfather, and we’re also a bit concerned she might hurt Yaoyao when she’s not fully conscious.”
“That’s certainly a valid concern…” Jiang Feng had seen Ming Yue’s Mother during an episode, he’d even witnessed her attempting suicide, and he’d also seen just how tragic things had been for the old man back then. It really was…
“For now, we can’t bring her back yet, but Uncle and Yaoyao can come visit her more often. As for bringing her home, we’ll think about that after I return and settle down again.”
Ming Yue made the final decision. Jiang Feng had no objections; he simply nodded and said, “That makes sense.” He didn’t linger in the room any longer. After taking a quick look around, he gently patted Ming Yao on the shoulder and quietly slipped out, leaving the space to the mother and her two children.
Her Mother was still asleep. Ming Yue and Ming Yao both stayed quietly by her side, neither saying a word. Ming Yue felt utterly speechless. Seeing her Mother like this, she longed to douse her in a bucket of cold water to snap her completely awake, then grab a knife in one hand and a sword in the other, just like those villainous demons in books—kick her way across the Pacific Ocean and return to that place that had held so many years of her pain and memories, slashing women with her left hand and slaughtering men with her right, wiping out every single person who had wrought evil. But…
In the end, it was only a fantasy. Whether it was revenge or healing, neither could be achieved overnight; there was no rush. It had to be done slowly, step by step.
As for Ming Yao, he had endless things he wanted to say, but for fear of worrying his sister, he kept quiet and simply stayed peacefully by their Mother’s and Sister’s side. Having weathered fierce storms and seen towering waves that stirred up raging tides, even these quiet little days were, in fact, a kind of happiness. He treasured them—truly treasured them. He could only sigh, though: in these peaceful little days, there was no longer Da Ge.
That tall, imposing figure, that incredibly handsome man, the one who had always been infinitely tolerant and loving toward him and his sister—the one who had done everything in his power to provide stability and security for everyone in the family. He had given everyone a backbone, warmth, and courage, but now he was gone—gone forever…
He would never, ever come back!
Sometimes, Ming Yao would wonder: Could it be that this world is, in truth, a hell rife with sin—a place steeped in wickedness? And perhaps Da Ge… was a perfect deity from some blissful realm. A world as filthy and sinful as this one wasn’t worthy of such a perfect being as Da Ge, so his world must have called him back, unwilling to let him linger any longer in this place of crime and mire…
