Chapter 155: Counterattack 81

“And one more thing! Don’t you ever dare run over here again and dirty my eyes!”

Ming Kai’s words struck like a thousand-year-old block of ice, shattering with a loud crash.

The woman on the floor, her face streaming with tears, looked as pale as death.

She gazed at Ming Kai, her eyes filled with agony.

Yet Ming Kai remained unchanged—still as cold as ever.

His thin lips parted slightly, and he spoke another sentence.

“If you ever dare sneak over here again without my permission, I’ll break your brother’s leg!”

“You…”

“If you even think of plotting against Xi Xi once, I’ll chop off your younger brother’s arm!”

“Ming…”

“If Xi Xi gets hurt because of you, I’ll take both your parents’ legs!”

“You…you…”

“If Xi Xi is put in danger because of you, I’ll sacrifice your nephews and nieces to make amends for her!”

“You!”

“And Yue Yue—you know it well: among all the people in this world, my little sister is one of those I care about most. If you dare scheme against her in the slightest, I won’t just wipe out your whole family—I’ll slaughter every single cat and dog in your household, too!”

Li Ci collapsed completely onto the floor, reduced to nothing but sobs.

Ming Kai, however, remained utterly unmoved.

He picked up his book again, his voice cool and detached. “Don’t think I can’t do it. The Ming Kai sitting here now is no longer that silly, naive kid from back then. If you’re not afraid of dying, go ahead and try it!”

“Ming Kai, you’re a devil! You’re the most terrifying devil in the whole world! I hate you! I hate you!”

Li Ci roared at the top of her lungs.

But Ming Kai had already turned back to his book, his head still bowed as he sneered under his breath, “Who else are you going to blame? Didn’t you, Li Ci, create this yourself? You reap what you sow—now you’ve got to bear the consequences!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he seemed to suddenly remember something, abruptly set down his book, and turned to look at the woman sprawled on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Li Ci felt goosebumps all over her body at his gaze, trembling as she stammered, “You…you…”

“Do you really want to get rid of me? Why don’t you go contact that person again—tell him I’m not dead, tell him I’m back in Ning City? Or maybe you two can pull that old stunt from back then once more?”

As he spoke, a slow smile slowly spread across Ming Kai’s cold face.

But instead of feeling any better at the sight of that smile, Li Ci’s scalp began to tingle.

She didn’t even dare look the man in the eye anymore.

One thought leads to heaven; one thought leads to hell.

At this very moment, no one understood the weight of those words better than she did.

In the end, caught in Ming Kai’s smile, Li Ci was utterly defeated.

She slumped to the floor, wrapped the bath towel on the ground around herself, her pale lips trembling uncontrollably, and pleaded with the man standing not far away:

“Ming Kai, please don’t do anything crazy! I was wrong—I really was! I’ll be good, I’ll obey you—please don’t lose it! Please, I’m begging you!”

Ming Kai had already withdrawn his gaze, returning to his book, and the smile vanished along with it, replaced by just a few soft words squeezed out between his lips: “Get out!”

Li Ci wiped her tears and dragged herself to her feet, stumbling toward the door.

When the door slammed shut, Ming Kai’s book once again lay open on the bedspread.

Ming Kai himself leaned back weakly against the headboard and slowly closed his eyes.

If you looked closely, you could even see a trace of tears at the corners of his tightly shut eyelids.

Lin Xi woke up late at night.

The quiet room was already empty of Ming Kai and Gang Zi; there was only a man who had prepared dinner and was now quietly keeping watch by her bedside, staring at her as if he’d gone mad.
