Chapter 229: Counterattack 156

“You’re back? Have you had dinner yet?”

Just as Jiang Feng was on high alert, a familiar figure stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped only in a loose bath towel. Her hair was still dripping wet as she dried it.

Jiang Feng stood there in stunned silence, hardly able to believe his eyes. “Yue’er? Is that you? How did you end up here? Weren’t you in An Cheng…?”

“I missed you, so I came back. I’ll head back tomorrow morning,” she said casually, as if chatting about everyday matters.

Jiang Feng’s heart began pounding uncontrollably, but instead of rushing over right away, he hesitated, staring at the woman who had walked over to the sofa and sat down,专注地 drying her hair. He felt as though he were dreaming, and couldn’t help but call out in disbelief, “Yue’er…”

“What are you standing there for? Go wash your hands—haven’t eaten yet! I’ve already made dinner…” Ming Yue looked at him like he was a fool.

She had originally intended to say she’d cooked dinner, but thought it wouldn’t be right to lie to him, so she smiled and changed her tone: “I ordered takeout—it’s still warm. Just wait for you to come back and we can eat together.”

“Great!” Jiang Feng’s face lit up with joy. Without even bothering to wash his hands, he hurried straight over to Ming Yue, wrapped her in a tight embrace, and started pinching her cheeks hard. “Yue’er, I must be dreaming, right?”

“Why would you pinch yourself if you’re dreaming? It hurts so much!” Ming Yue slapped his hand away, then, clearly disgusted, used two fingers to pull his hand far from her body. “You’re filthy! I just took a shower! Stop messing around with me! Hurry up and wash your hands! If you don’t wash them, you’ll go hungry—and no touching me, got it?”

“Yes, ma’am!” Jiang Feng replied eagerly, as if all his fatigue for the whole day had vanished in an instant. He tossed whatever he was holding onto the sofa and dashed into the bathroom, where he not only washed his hands but also quickly took a quick shower, then wrapped himself in the same kind of bath towel as Ming Yue.

When he came out again, he was like a gust of wind, swooping straight over to Ming Yue, scooping her up in his arms, snatching the towel from her hand, and starting to dry her hair for her.

“Yue’er, how did you end up here?” Jiang Feng asked, his face brimming with joy and excitement.

Ming Yue curled her lips into a faint smile. “You really are something—you just told me this a moment ago, and now you’ve already forgotten? Are you getting senile?”

“No, I remember perfectly well—I just want to hear it one more time!” Jiang Feng explained, then leaned close to her ear and whispered encouragingly, “Yue’er, my dear Yue’er, please say it again. I want to hear it—it sounds so lovely!”

“You…”

“Just one more time, okay? I wasn’t quite myself earlier and didn’t catch on right away.” His hands kept moving, and his words never stopped.

Ming Yue let out a helpless sigh, but didn’t refuse again. Instead, she cleared her throat, turned to him, gently cupped his face in her hands, and said, “Silly goose, I said I missed you, so I came back. I’ll head back tomorrow morning to keep things going. Are you satisfied now?”

“Absolutely! Of course I’m satisfied! Nothing could make me happier than this!”

Jiang Feng’s voice trembled with excitement, his eyes already moist, and he pulled her even closer, kissing the corner of her lips without hesitation.

After all, this meant so much to him! This was her response after he’d confessed his feelings, and the best comfort he’d received after so many anxious days—how could he possibly be anything but satisfied?
