Chapter 230: Counterattack 157
Yet Ming Yue remained as calm as ever, her clear, autumn-water eyes quietly fixed on the unnamed male operative as she said in a soft voice, “You do mind, don’t you? So next time if you’re going to propose to me again, you’d better think it through.”
“Think what through?” Jiang Feng asked, his gaze locked on her little face.
Ming Yue curled her lips into a faint smile. “Of course I mean—think through whether you really want to marry me, whether you can truly put my past behind you, whether you really want to spend a lifetime with me, whether you really want to have children with me, and whether you’ll really love me for the rest of your life, just like you say you will.”
“Ming Yue.”
Jiang Feng’s large hand reached up to cup her face, gently caressing her cheek. Ming Yue immediately seized that restless hand and whispered, “Jiang Feng, we’ve been together for more than just a day or two. You know my temper—you know the difference between playing around and taking life seriously, between treating things as a mere game and living earnestly. You should be able to guess how I handle things, too.”
“You think I’m lying to you?”
“No.”
“Then you think I, Jiang Feng, am someone who acts without thinking things through first?”
Jiang Feng asked again.
Ming Yue shook her head once more. “No, that’s not it either. But I…”
Before she could finish, Jiang Feng cut her off with a kiss. His eyes were slightly reddened as he held her tightly in his arms. “Don’t say another word about it, and don’t bring it up again. If you do, I might just bite you!”
He admitted that he really didn’t want to dwell on all her past with that unnamed male operative, let alone hear his name mentioned again by her own mouth. So he hurriedly used this method to forcefully end her words.
Ming Yue was momentarily taken aback.
Jiang Feng’s voice rang out once more. “Yue’er, even if I told you I didn’t mind at all—and I honestly don’t—I doubt you’d believe me.”
“Jiang…”
“But so what? The past is the past, and the present is the present. What we care about is the here and now, and the future. Why keep clinging to the past? We’re still so young—why not look more toward the future? Why not focus more on all the things we haven’t experienced yet?”
Jiang Feng asked.
Ming Yue remained silent.
Jiang Feng sighed, then hugged her tightly and said in a deep voice, “If you insist on dwelling on the past, then I only regret that I didn’t meet you sooner, didn’t fall for you sooner, and didn’t come to your side earlier to win you over!”
“You…”
“So don’t ever doubt my heart! Ming Yue, I love you! Life is long—I can’t promise I’ll always love you this passionately for the rest of my days, but I can guarantee that whenever I love you, I’ll love you with all my heart!”
No girl would dislike such words. Ming Yue was no exception.
Even though she had long since learned to manage her emotions and keep her joy and anger hidden from view, there was no denying that when this man confessed his deep feelings to her like this, her heart couldn’t help but tremble ever so slightly. And this wasn’t the first time it had happened.
She couldn’t remember when it had first begun to tremble because of him.
Was it during his last confession?
Or when he crossed the ocean to accompany her back to the estate to visit her family?
Perhaps when he helped her sort out some trouble?
Or maybe it was the very first time he proposed?
Or perhaps it was the day he finally came clean about everything?
She didn’t know—and she didn’t want to waste any more mental energy trying to figure it out.
