Chapter 237: Counterattack 164
"Not yet! I haven’t even had a chance to report to that gentleman yet."
The unnamed male operative hurriedly waved his hands, as if the slightest delay would result in Ming Yue slashing him down with a single blow.
Ming Yue remained perfectly still, her expression unreadable, but she shot him a cold glare, signaling him to continue.
The man nodded and went on, "As for how I found you—well, it was just good luck on my part."
At this point, he suddenly realized that wasn’t quite right.
Not at all.
Who the hell gets lucky enough to stumble upon something like this?
He’d thought the job would be done, that he’d walk away with a big bonus or something—but instead, it was precisely this encounter that landed him in a world of trouble.
He’d assumed the cheerful-looking young woman would be easy to handle.
Who could have imagined she’d turn out to be a madwoman!
And not just any madwoman—she’d gone straight into a fight without so much as a word, let alone an argument!
If it hadn’t been for the ancestral spirit intervening and frantically summoning protective shields from the heavens, he’d probably have been finished for good by now.
So what kind of “good luck” was that?
It was rotten luck—rotten beyond belief!
There’s simply no such thing as luck this bad!
"Stop stalling—I don’t have the patience to watch you daydream for hours. Hurry up and tell me whatever you’ve got to say!"
Ming Yue had no idea what the man was thinking, but she tightened her grip on the dagger in her hand and urged him on.
The man nearly jumped out of his skin.
Thankfully, it seemed she was only issuing a warning: she moved the dagger just a bit closer to his throat, but didn’t actually press hard enough to cut his skin—just enough to make the point. So he quickly picked up where he’d left off and said to Ming Yue, "That gentleman paid our Boss a hefty sum to track you down, and arranged for several people to follow members of the Liu family. I was assigned to follow Liu Qingqing. Today, by sheer coincidence, I spotted you at the Hospital, so I’ve been tailing you ever since, waiting to confirm your identity before reporting back to our Boss and that gentleman for their reward."
"Oh? Is that so?"
Ming Yue let out a cold laugh.
The man immediately waved his hands in protest. "Hold on, I’m not done yet!"
"So you’re going to keep talking?"
"No, no! Don’t worry—I’d never dare! I’ll just say I never saw you, never tracked you down. How does that sound?"
The man asked cautiously.
Ming Yue raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"
"I… I get it! That’s exactly what I’ll say! No matter who asks, I’ll say the same thing: I never found you, never laid eyes on you!"
The man declared, as if swearing allegiance.
Just then, Ming Yue’s phone rang—it was the man’s own phone, and the caller was the “Boss” he’d recently been in contact with, the very same man Ming Yue had just called using her own number to verify his identity.
The man instantly tensed up, as if he’d done something wrong and gotten caught red-handed.
But Ming Yue remained calm and composed, showing no sign of panic. She glanced at the phone, didn’t rush to answer, and instead issued another stern warning to the man before asking, "You know what to say now, right?"
"Yes!"
"Good! That’s all I need to hear!"
She took the phone in her hand, turned on speakerphone, held it up to the man’s mouth, and shot him a fierce glare, signaling him to speak.
The man was terrified. After taking a deep breath, he forced himself to act as if nothing had happened and cheerfully asked the “Boss” in his phone’s notes, "Boss, you wanted to see me? What’s up?"
