Chapter 44: As Stupid as a Pig
“Yes, it’s over—are you satisfied now?” Ming Yue stared straight into the unnamed male operative’s eyes.
The momentary pang of guilt she’d felt upon recognizing him instantly vanished. In its place rose stubbornness, unyielding spirit, and that prickly, irritable edge that made her feel uneasy unless she was constantly on the offensive.
Jiang Feng’s handsome face still wore that cold smirk. “So quick, huh? Does that mean his body has given out, and he’s completely useless in that regard now?”
“Useless? Not at all! At least I’m way better than you,” Ming Yue shot back, throwing caution to the wind and showing absolutely no desire to explain herself.
“So it seems you’ve never been very satisfied with me, huh?”
“You’re right!”
“Ming Yue, you’ve got guts!”
Jiang Feng’s smirk slowly faded, replaced by a stern, icy expression. He stared at Ming Yue for a long while, then squeezed out a single word through clenched teeth: “Get lost.” With that, he rolled up the car window and drove off.
Ming Yue didn’t try to stop him, offer an explanation, or show any sign of reluctance. She simply stood there, utterly calm, watching as the car and the man disappeared from view.
Back home, Ming Yue was once again met with the hateful, disdainful faces of those who despised her. How could she not be annoyed by it?
So she gave them no reason to think she cared, headed straight upstairs, and let her weary body sink into the soft comfort of her bed.
Lost in a daze, she slept for who knows how long—until a loud commotion jolted her awake from her slumber.
Before she even had time to figure out what was going on, she heard Ming Xia’s low growl echoing throughout the Ming household: [
“Am I the one who’s wronged you? Am I really the one who’s wronged you?
Ming Xia, you idiot!
Do you even know how the word ‘stupid’ is written?
I haven’t settled your score yet, and you’re already stirring up trouble again.
Why don’t you just go find a piece of tofu and bang your head against it until you die?”]
What?
Find a piece of tofu and bang your head until you die?
Ming Yue snapped awake, feeling as though she’d missed something huge. She sprang out of bed in one fluid motion, grabbed her treasured chair, and walked over to the railing to watch the show.
And indeed, that’s exactly what had happened.
Because of Li Ci, Fu Qiancheng, and Jiang Feng, she’d been physically and mentally exhausted. The moment she returned home, she’d buried herself under the covers and slept soundly for hours on end.
She had no idea that Ming Xia, the very same person she’d scolded at the Lingyin Club, had grown bitter and resentful. After being warned twice—first by Fu Qiancheng and then by Jiang Feng—and later discovered and berated by her ex-husband Zhao Donglou, she couldn’t help but vent her anger online.
This time, she secretly took a photo of Fu Qiancheng and Ming Yue supporting each other, then pretended to be an insider, painting a picture of the two… well, it’s hard to put into words.
To make matters worse, Fu Qiancheng’s mother, Shen Luochen, quickly caught wind of it. She used every means at her disposal to suppress the story before it could even become a trending topic, then tossed the evidence straight at Ming Shuo, demanding an explanation.
Ming Shuo himself hadn’t even sorted out his own mess yet. To have inadvertently angered the Fu family was enough to drive him into a rage. As soon as he got home, he launched into a furious tirade at the oblivious Ming Xia.
Hearing this, Ming Xia immediately bristled. She pouted indignantly and said, “Brother, what do you mean by that? What ‘score’ are you talking about? What score do I have? What did I ever do to you that you’d say such things?”
“Do you really not know what you’ve done to me?”
Ming Shuo exploded, fixing Ming Xia with a look as if she were a complete fool.
Ming Xia grew even more indignant, hands on her hips, and demanded, “I don’t know? Then why don’t you tell me clearly, Big Brother? Let me die knowing exactly what I’ve done!”
“Fine, then I’ll make sure you die knowing exactly what you’ve done!”
Ming Shuo snatched the phone right out of Ming Xia’s hand, quickly scrolled through her original post—and the latest one she’d posted today, stirring up trouble again—and slammed the phone right in front of Ming Xia’s face.
