Chapter 46: Open the Door!
“Auntie, why are you being so formal? Why won’t you open the door? I’m standing out here and I’m really tired. Aren’t you worried that the longer I stand here, the angrier I’ll get?”
Ming Yue knocked with growing impatience, pressing a bit harder and even using her foot to add more force.
Just then, Ming Shuo, who had been sitting in the living room downstairs, eyes closed in quiet contemplation, suddenly received a phone call, his expression turning even grimmer.
Liu Qinxin had already come to his side.
She’d originally planned to rush over and bring reinforcements—go stop that crazy Ming Yue.
But as soon as she saw how grim Ming Shuo’s face was, she knew something major had happened again. Rubbing her sore forehead, she cautiously probed, “Brother Shuo, what’s going on? What’s happened this time?”
“The situation online has changed again. The very thing I was afraid of has finally come true.”
Ming Shuo was utterly frazzled and couldn’t possibly pay any attention to the commotion upstairs.
Hearing this, Liu Qinxin quickly pulled out her phone to check—and found that the more she dug into the trending posts, the deeper they went, almost reaching right up to her and her two sons.
What’s more, someone even uncovered that Huiqing wasn’t originally Ming Shuo’s company at all; he’d seized it from his ex-wife and father-in-law.
The company was originally called Ning City Song’s Clothing Co., Ltd. It was only after Ming Shuo successfully pushed out his father-in-law and younger brother-in-law, and swiftly got rid of his ex-wife, that he renamed it Huiqing.
But that still wasn’t the worst part.
The truly terrifying thing was that people had started exposing online the string of tragedies that had befallen Ming Shuo’s ex-wife’s family in recent years:
[His father-in-law, struck by a stroke and unable to care for himself; his younger brother-in-law, forced to flee abroad; his eldest son, killed in an accident; his younger son, disabled in an accident; and his ex-wife, driven mad by the unbearable blows.]
One shocking detail after another—every single one was laid bare.
Then people began speculating: Could it be that the mistress and Ming Shuo were colluding to pull this off?
Each new claim came flooding in like a raging torrent…
Liu Qinxin’s eyelids kept twitching, her face turning deathly pale as she turned to Ming Shuo on the sofa. “Brother Shuo, how did things end up like this?”
“Ask me? Who else am I supposed to ask? Isn’t this your precious daughter’s doing?”
Ming Shuo’s head was pounding, and he’d long since lost control of the public backlash.
After all these years, he was once again feeling the helplessness and panic of trying to deal with such a situation.
The company’s stock had already been affected, and orders were suffering too—back then, none of these rumors had surfaced yet.
Now that they have…
Ming Shuo lay back on the sofa, eyes tightly shut, hands covering his face.
Liu Qinxin had already stopped talking, no longer daring to suggest that he go upstairs and rescue his daughter. Instead, she quietly moved over to his side, placed her hand on his temple, and began gently massaging it for him.
Meanwhile, the farce upstairs continued.
Liu Qinxin’s heart stirred, and she tentatively asked, “Brother Shuo, do you think that now that things have gotten to this point, it might be because Ming Yue…”
She didn’t finish the sentence.
But Ming Shuo slowly opened his eyes, looking at her with a gaze that Liu Qinxin had never seen before—and could never understand.
“Are you saying she’s just like your precious daughter, unable to tell what’s important and what’s not, so foolish she’s beyond redemption? Or do you think she actually has the power to stir up such a huge storm?
Do you really think these media outlets and websites were started by you, or by her? Does she really have the ability to make such a big fuss just because she wants to?”
“Brother Shuo, I’m sorry—I didn’t mean it that way. I— I just…”
Liu Qinxin’s face was full of grievance, her lips clenched tightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
Ming Shuo’s heart softened, and he stopped teasing her.
Gently patting her hand, he explained slowly, “I had someone look into it. Over the past few years while Ming Yue was missing, she opened a small clothing company overseas.
The business didn’t do well and ended up deeply in debt.
Song Chun Song and Song Hui Yun also needed large sums of money for medical treatment, so she had no choice but to swallow her pride and come home to beg me for money.
Her temper is indeed quite bad, but she’s still nowhere near having the capability to cause such a huge uproar. Someone is deliberately taking advantage of this opportunity to target me.”
